Chanderpaul and his son make runs......

Another Chanderpaul is on the rise, in club cricket in the Caribbean at least, and the teenage Tagenarine is learning his trade by batting with his accomplished father, Shivnarine, West Indies’ highest run-scorer in Tests.

Playing for Gandhi Youth Organisation against Transport Sports Club on Saturday, Chanderpaul and his son, Tagenarine, bludgeoned the opposition attack, as GYO piled up 312 for 2 from the allotted 40 overs. Shivnarine led the onslaught with an unbeaten 143 that included 10 sixes and seven fours, while Tagenarine was not far behind with an unbeaten 112, which included six sixes and seven fours. The father-son duo put on an unbroken 256 for the third wicket to lay the foundation for a 125-run win.

Earlier in the week, Chanderpaul anchored Tiger Sports to a 94-run win over Unity with an unbeaten 68. Once again Tagenarine provided solid support with 35.

Classic Hustlers 2 down Lehigh

The Hustler 2 squad ventured out to Lehigh in round 2 of the SFSCL on sunday and came away with a comprehensive win and the 6 points on offer.

After the long drive out and early start the Hustler team all shook off the journey and warmed up on the Lehigh outfield. Some areas were very wet and with expectant afternoon rain, the toss was an important one to win to get a favourable result.

Lehigh won the toss and decided to bat first which is what Hustler captain Chris had decided to do with weather an important factor if he had won the toss himself.

Lehigh got off to a shaky start as they lost wickets at a quick rate with opening bowlers Mohan 2 wkts and Rasheed 5 wkts bowling accurately and quick. Amar also grabbed 2 late wickets as Lehigh found themselves bowled out in the 13th over for 68. The Hustlers bowling attack didn't even require the 5th bowler option as the first four all did their job.

Cliff and Ravi opened the innings for Hustlers and got off to a strong start and by the 5th over 40 runs were already on the board. Cliff fell for an entertaining 26 while Ravi finished on 32 not out with Rasheed the other not out batsman as the total was easily reached in the 10th over.

Overall it was a top performance by the Hustler squad and now are on the points board with their first 6 of the Fall Season. The Hustler team enjoyed the welcoming Lehigh gave them after the game finished and stayed back well into the night to talk about the game and some old time Classic batsman stories.

The journey home was pretty eventful with some hilarious disorderly cricket chat going on in the back of the 8 seater as we were all reminded every ten minutes about our very own Classic batsman, who at this present time, would like to remain anonymous. All will be revealed before the season is over though.

All in all it was another fun filled day playing, laughing, drinking, and enjoying the company with the other team players.

Congratulations to MVP Rasheed Khan for his impressive 5 wicket haul and is now showing what a destructive bowler he can be in the SFSCL.

Next week's opposition is the Guyana Heat at 199th Street in round 3.

Hustlers lose against Primetime

Hustler 2 lost their first league fixture of the season at Primetime when they just fell short of the 134 runs needed for victory.

Having won the toss, Hustlers sent in Primetime to bat first on a wet wicket and found conditions in favour of the side fielding first.
Runs were restricted to a low run rate and in parts, the Hustler bowlers all bowled well, in between some loose deliveries.

At the break Primetime were 67 for 3.

After the break Primetime accelerated their run rate by some good hitting from Mac who contributed an aggresive 32.

The Hustlers bowlers all bowled well with Mohan the pick of the bowlers as the Primetime innings finished at 134 in their 25 overs.

Hustlers got off to a bad start losing Rasheed first ball. Cliff and Ravi batted sensibly for a while before Ravi got himself out to a miscued full toss followed quickly by Cliff. Mohan and Chris then saw out the halftime break with only 54 on the board. Just after the break Mohan set about the bowling with some massive hitting as the Hustler team came back into the game but soon he was gone and was quickly followed by Chris. The run rate kept increasing as the Hustler batsmen failed to score boundaries and with overs running out they fell short of the required total by 14 runs.

All in all it was a below average batting performance that cost us the game but hats off to the Primetime squad for their win which they truly deserved. Good to see Michael diving around the outfield with some impressive fielding and Keshore for his enthusiasm and experience. Another newbie Amar bowled like a champion as he turned back the clock to show us all what a fine bowler he is and still could be. Debbie also showed some glimpes of her fielidng strengths as well as ending the innings with a not out in a run a ball innings.

We would like to thanks all the Primetime boys for hosting us and especially Mac for his welcoming at his house after the game.

Next week we are off to Lehigh and hope for a much improved effort from our batsmen as we look forward to a better performance.

Sangakkara wins at ICC awards

Kumar Sangakkara has won three awards, including the prestigious Cricketer of the Year and Test Cricketer of the Year at the annual ICC awards ceremony in Colombo. Sangakkara also won the People's Choice prize, an honour he had received last year as well.

For Cricketer and Test Cricketer of the Year, Sangakkara was chosen ahead of South Africa's Hashim Amla and Vernon Philander, and Australia captain Michael Clarke.
He was prolific in both Tests and ODIs during the 12-month voting period ending in early August: in 14 Tests, he compiled 1,444 runs at an average of 60.16, including five centuries and five half-centuries, highlighted by a match-saving 211 against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi; in 37 ODIs, he scored 1457 runs with three hundreds, and also completed 39 catches and three stumpings as a wicketkeeper.

SARWAN WINS CASE, $161,000 damages from WICB

Ramnaresh Sarwan, the West Indies batsman who hasn't played since June 2011, has won his case against the WICB over comments made about his fitness and has been awarded $161,000 in damages. The matter was heard in arbitration.

Sarwan had lodged the appeal, in conjunction with the West Indies Players' Association (WIPA), against the WICB in March 2011 for unfairly questioning in public his fitness and attitude. This, he said, effectively cost him not only a central contract for the 2010-11 season but also damaged his "reputation as a professional cricketer" and "sullied his career as an international cricketer."
Accepting Sarwan's claim that he had suffered "loss and damage", the arbitrator, Seenath Jairam, concluded that the batsman had been "denigrated" because the selection processes of the WICB were not transparent and the board had committed various breaches of their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the player.
