Yaadboyz CC Player Profile - ENGLISH

The first team Brit played for at the beginning of his South Florida cricket career was at the end of 2007 when Starlite CC allowed him to join them under the leadership of Anoop Basdeo. The first 2 seasons were very tough trying to learn how to adjust his hardball game and score runs but after numerous innings of failures and a few tweaks to his batting skills it all finally came good with Starlite who he will be always grateful to for allowing him the opportunity and believed that he was capable of scoring runs for them. Thanks to Buddy and Rajin for the vote of confidence. After winning the Fall Championship in a final that was the first to be played at Broward Regional Park, British left and joined Berbice CC for 2 years where he was fortunate enough to play in a very good side led by Munesh Suklall before taking over the captaincy and going out with a win against Superkings CC. He then joined Hustlers 2 CC, now Yaadboyz CC, where he has been playing since the start of 2012.

Over the years he has played with and against some very talented cricketers who he can count as good friends to this day. There are too many to mention individually but as we continue to play and get older we have to encourage and give our wisdom to the youngsters still learning this game for it to carry on once we hang up our uniforms.

Listed below are some of his personal milestones and team accomplishments (3 teams and a Championship win with all 3) he has proudly been involved in since playing in the South Florida Softball Cricket League.

Yaadboyz CC lose to President CC in Rd 5

Travelling awayYaadboyz shared mini cooler for the day.
The Yaadboyz team headed off down south for their latest game against President CC in Rd 5.

Having won the toss, we had no hesitation in batting first on a beautiful hot day at Southridge Park in perfect conditions to drink many samples of cold ones at the right temperatures later on.

The Yaadboyz openers got off to a flying start facing two Allstars who opened the bowling for President of Samuel and Anil. British set after Samuel with consecutive boundaries and then followed up with the same against Anil in the next over.
Sitting at 36 in 4 overs, British was first out for a swashbuckling 20 before he was deceived by a by Marky and was caught behind.

Wickets came and went with only the legendary Cliffy 21, the only other batsman to master the pitch and the accurate bowling of the President attack with an array of sweeping which we all known he is world famous for. Vikash once again showed great promise with the bat.

President got off to a quick start before Cliffy grabbed 2 to wickets. Ravi got 1 and wicket keeper Johnno his first ever league wicket of primetime lashman Azam.

The runs on the board were never going to be enough to defend but we still managed to get Gussy, Azam, Anil, and Samuel out before the President batsmen reached their target in the 18th over with our bowling attack made up of part timers and guys who rarely bowled an over in the SFSCL before.

We enjoyed the catchup with players from Outcast and the Florida Lightning who were playing on the pitch next door, and did our very best to have a drink with all of them. It was again another great day out for the Yaadboyz socializing with everybody and to never to change our sunday routine, we then ventured off to Hibiscus to help celebrate Skips birthday with players from present and past and down a few more liquids.

Win or lose, Div 1 or Div 2, our team will still be playing the game the way it is meant to be. No dramas, no tantrums, and most importantly, no soft drinks please........

Match Report Yaadboyz CC v Berbice CC Rd 3

After much thought and a few polite enquiries from other players around the SFSCL, here is our match report of our latest fixture from Round 3 against Berbice CC.

Who can name this ground?
The Yaadboyz arrived at the ground in their usual manner, some on time, some running late, and some still lost and missing in action from the previous night. With only 7 players at the ground for the start, we wondered where and who the other 4 would be to make up our 11 starters. Ravi was running on Guyanese time as per usual and said he would be on time which really meant he would show up around 1 30pm. As for the others, we all started praying for 3 able cricketers to surface from anywhere to help us out.

Altaf was nominated to go and spin the coin this week and called correctly and without any hesitation told Berbice skipper Andy the Yaadboyz will be batting first. We actually had no choice but to bat first considering we only had 7 starters at 12 30 !!!

Johnno and British opened the batting and after a couple of sighters both of them opened up their shoulders to get the innings off to a flying start. Yours truly jockeyed the strike from Johnno regulary (unintentional...honest mate), and entertained his troops from the sidelines with some beautiful shot making all through the cover point  and covers region along the carpet and over the top. (Mr Classic from the touchline would have been proud to witness those classical strokes.....). With over 10 runs an over being scored early on with ease, it was no surprise British completed his 50 by the 7th over of the innings before he was out in the 9th over for a swashbuckling 62.( This 62 of mine was a gentle reminder for all the doubters out there who said I was finished as a batsmen and was over the hill and needed to retire....I guess I still have a little left).

At the break we sat pretty on 107 for 1.

The rest of the innings saw Johnno make 41, new member Vikash hit a promising 24, and Altaf bludgeon 21 to prop up our total to a respectable 197.

Berbice batted beautifully in their run chase with firstly H Muneshwar 53, Jerry 35, and Mikey 60 not out seeing them pass our score in the 23rd over with ease.( I will not embarass any of our bowlers with bowling stats......but they all tried their best on a tough day).

Even though we lost the game with a team short of numbers, we still managed to close down the Yard and helped Hibiscus up their bar sales well into the night as per usual.

Congratulations to Berbice for the win as it is always a pleasure to catch up with some of my ex team mates to share a story or two. Indeed, it was another great day out in the park playing cricket without any dramas and small time bickering between players as we both managed to play the game in the right spirit (the Mankading was nowhere to be seen).

Thanks going out for hosting us to Ramesh and his crew and good luck for the rest of the season.

Next week we play Hustlers 1 at Joe Carter Park in Rd 4.

Yaadboyz lose to Superkings in Round 1

The Yaadboyz team took a sound beating in Round 1 of Div 1 in the SFSCL yesterday.

Having lost the toss (actually Superkings claimed it as we didn't have 7 players at the ground by 12 .15), the Yaadboyz endured 25 overs of fielding witnessing sheer carnage by the Superking top order batsmen. The only two wickets to fall were Brian and Max before Ryan and Martin filled their boots to both hit unbeaten centuries against a tired looking bowling attack from the Yaadboyz.

The final total posted was an impressive 272 for the loss of 2 wickets.

Yaadboyz got off to a swift start from Cliff and John and were soon at 96 by the 13th over break. After that Ravi managed to hit a quickfire 50 odd to see our score pass 180 for 8 in 25 overs but fall way short of the winning total to get the win.

Generally it was a performance of "Better luck next time" for the Yaadboyz as they lost by nearly a hundred runs.

Next week we face Unlimited CC at the Yard.

League News and Early Fixtures

Yaadboyz CC kick off their new season in Div 1 against Superkings CC being played at The Yard this coming sunday in round 1.

This is followed by a game against Unlimited CC in round 2 and against Berbice CC in round 3 with these two games also scheduled to be played at The Yard.

Having lost 5 players of their squad from last season, the Yaadboyz are looking to honor all their games in Div 1 whether they have a full team or not. We would like to wish the players who left us all the best for the future and hope they enjoy playing for their new sides in years to come. Good luck to you all.

Players coming and going is a normal practice in our league but these players need to realize that wherever they end up they will have to start from zero at their new team. They have to get used to new leaders, new team mates, and most importantly new roles in their new side. Nothing guarantees them a bowl or a bat in that new side. Sometimes the grass is not always greener on the other side. We will wait and see if the move works out for best for you all or not.

One last piece of news is a gentle reminder that the Div 1 Final from last season will be played this coming Saturday at Tamarac Recreational Park with a 5pm start between Hustler and Hurricanes.
This game has the makings of being an even contest and a close game but it will have to go some to match our final in Div 2 last season for excitement, great cricket, top bowling, great batmanship, and most importantly, a great celebratory drink up after the game finishes.

Good luck to both sides this saturday.

Florida Masters beat Orlando Masters by 7 wickets

Florida Masters Squad
South Florida Masters Yaadboyz

South Florida Masters lead by an aggressive 72 from Nazim Ali easily defeated their rivals Orlando Masters by 7 wickets at the Broward Cricket Stadium in the inaugural match of the Florida Premier Softball Cricket League.

South Florida Masters captain, Chris Arjoon, asked Orlando to take first strike and saw Orlando's top order struggle against some accurate bowling from the South Florida opening bowlers. They lost their first wicket on 20 when Azar Khan was comprehensively bowled by Amar Singh as he was trying to accelerate the scoring rate.  Orlando Master continued to loose wickets at regular intervals as they kept the pressure on what seems to be a nervous batting line-up.   Yamin Ifty top scored with 31 and was the only batsman that looked comfortable against the South Florida bowling attack.

Trevor Persaud  and Joe Ramgobin were the top bowlers for South Florida with three wickets each and were well supported by Deodat Ramesh, Kaiume Mohammed, Amar Singh, and Paul Roach who all had very economical figures.

South Florida Masters
In reply to Orlando's total of  132, South Florida got off to a flying  start with  Nazim Ali taking the attack to the Orlando opening bowlers.  Nazim Ali went on to score the first half century in the Florida Premier Softball Cricket league and he was well supported by the hard hitting  Kaiume Mohamed who scored an aggressive 32  which included four sixes.
South Florida Masters v Orlando Masters
The Florida Masters team managed to complete the run chase by the 18th over.

The squad itself was made up of 5 Yaadboyz CC (Basil, Ravi, John, Amar, Chris capt), 3 Guyana Heat CC (Ramesh, Paul, Joe), 1 Outlaw CC (Kaiume vc), 1 Hustler CC (Trevor), 1 Breakaway CC (Jay), 1 FiveStar CC (Nazim) and managed by Yaadboyz CC Cliff Rahaman.

SFSCL Presentation 2015

The SFSCL had it's annual cricket dance and presentation last Saturday and it turned out to be a great success once again with many teams showing up to collect their awards. Cheap drinks, an excellent selection of foods, and great company were all on show during the night.
English, Mo, Cliff, Dillon, Derek, Terry, Bayo,John, Basil. (Missing: Mukesh, Slim, Altaf, Amar, Deo, Retesh, Ravi & Zaheer)

The Yaadboys went in force and stood proudly with the best of them as they collected their Fall Div 2 Championship trophy which was duly presented to our manager Derek for all the hard work he put in this past season. Thanks again Derek.

Individual awards were collected by Basil, Johnno, Zaheer, Altaf, Ravi, Terry, and the British guy for performances throughout the year.

The SFSCL must be thanked for all the hard work they put in throughout the year and also must be commended for all the time they spent planning, organizing, and making sure our league was run sufficiently in the last 12 months. Great job and well done to all the execs for 2015 and we hope you all continue to do an adequate job in a league that is not always an easy one to run.

2016 will be soon upon us and we would like to wish all the teams the best of luck in the new year and hope we can all continue to help the league grow in the best way we can.

Happy New Year......

Yaadboyz CC Fall 2015 Division 2 Champions - Match Report

YAADBOYZ CC are CHAMPIONS

Yaadboyz CC
Who would of thought we would become Champions of the Division at the beginning of the season with the same group of players we had previous in past seasons with many outsiders doubting our ability to play the game with our old over the hill team?

We managed to prove a lot of people wrong with a fantastic performance rated right up there with the best of them in a run chase for a Final. Berbice CC played their part in this Final with a great batting display of their own with a fine  individual contribution of 73 coming from one of their youngest players Mikey. Their score of 235 in a Final batting first would normally be a winning score to defend but we had other ideas in the outcome.

Having to score at an rate of 9 plus runs and over, we saw Cliffy take the fight to the Berbice opening bowlers right from the off. His short but sweet quickfire knock set up the tempo of our innings which we carried on all the way through until the 24th over.
Play action
In came Ravi who started off cautiously with the bat but once in, he found his range to send bad balls out of the park with ease. His contribution with the bat was immense as he saved his best batting performance of the entire  Fall season for the Final. After he completed his fifty he was unfortunately run out for 57. At the break the score was an impressive on target, 126 for 3 with another 110 required in the next 12 overs for victory with wickets remaining and the excitement building. With still a lot of work to do this was was going to go right down to the wire and keep the crowd on their seat edges entertained all the way to see who would win.
Skipper & vc
Slim was the next man out attempting to accelerate the scoring after the resumption. Altaf and Mukesh then tucked into the Berbice attack with sixes and fours raining down all around to send the scoring rate up and back in our favor. Mukesh was out for a swashbuckling 24 and shortly afterwards Altaf was gone for a fine 63 of MVP proportions. This left the skipper and vice captain together at the wicket with 21 needed of the last 18 deliveries.

Any chance of a Berbice victory was lost once Basil hit a 4 boundary and this was then followed up in the 24th over with  2 sixes by the British guy to see us go past Berbice's score with an over to spare. This was a team batting masterclass as everybody contributed to our win. It really was a very special moment for all of us to be involved in but to win a game in such a manner it had fans applauding us well into the night.
A few shell shocked Berbice players after the defeat
This was really a memorable game to play in especially in the way we batted as a unit and  to chase down the 235 for the win. Our aging bodies may let us down every so often in the field thesedays but the old experience heads of ours saw us through when it mattered most. We would like to offer thanks to all our supporters who came and watched us win against the much fancied Berbice squad and hope our win will stick in your memories for a longtime to come. Thanks also to Raj and Tariq for their umpiring duties as they both did an excellent job for both teams.

Once again we celebrated together as a team in our normal manner well into the night but this time the drinks tasted a little bit sweeter due to our Championship win.

As for us now, we will rejoice and marvel at our amazing accomplishment for the next few weeks and remind people out there that our will to win against all the odds will be with us forever and nobody can take away our hard fought Championship win.

Cheerz everybody......See you next year in Div 1.

Yaadboyz through to the Fall Divison Final

Yesterday, Yaadboyz CC beat Lehigh CC in one of the two semi final Div 2 games by 6 wickets in a game that saw both teams on top at different stages.

(In the other semi final game, Berbice beat Wildfire CC in a game that went to a thrilling Super Over).

Yaaboyz skipper Basil won the toss, and after careful thought, decided to put Lehigh into bat first on a surprisingly dry wicket considering the previous 2 days of constant rain.(It appears that our ground is very thirsty and drinks a lot of liquids just in the same style as our players).

Lehigh lost one of their openers early on to a suicidal run out courtesy of a Cliff and Terry combination. Lehigh again lost crucial wickets upfront as they found the bowling of Terry, Bayo, and Retesh accuracy too much for them to score quickly. Once Mukesh was brought on to bowl he took out 2 wickets in his first over and then in his next bowled Lehigh's top batsman Raj to see Lehigh stumble to 49 for 6 at the 13th over break. The Yaadboyz at this stage were truly on top.

Once the game restarted this is when the game changed as Lehigh came back into the game with good contributions from their lower order batsmen. Not only did they bat well but they scored at a rapid 12 runs an over to see their score rise to an impressive 175 for 9 after their bad start.

Shell shocked and still wondering what had just been witnessed, the Yaadboyz players knew the 175 would have to be made in a positive way against arguably one of the best bowling lineups in the Division. Kudos to the young Lehigh batsmen for posting a fighting total for them to try and defend.

Cliff and Johnno got the innings off to a flyer as they punished loose deliveries all around the ground with Cliffy being severe on anything near his hitting zone as he raced to a quickfire 39. With Johnno batting comfortably at his end and dispatching boundaries at a regular rate also, the Yaadboyz went to the 13th over break with their score sitting on an outstanding 128.

With only another 48 runs required in the next 12 overs, Johnno and skipper Basil put on a solid partnership before Johnno was bowled for a match winning knock of 69. Slim and Altaf saw off the few runs necessary at the end to see the Yaadboyz win in a canter by 6 wickets all within 18 overs in  a run chase straight out of the top drawer.

Tough luck to all the Lehigh players who fought us all the way in this semi final encounter but in every game unfortunately there has to be a loser and yesterday's game was your turn. Lehigh proved to us that are are a tough side to break down as their batting lineup is definitely a long one.

The oldest team in the Division has now proved some people wrong who doubted us at the season beginning saying we should all give up and we were all over the hill. One loss in the entire season is not too bad for an accomplishment by us Oldies.

This win is dedicated to all the doubters out there.

Yaadboyz beat Breakaway CC

The Yaadboyz played Breakaway CC in their final regular season game at Willie Webb Park yesterday and came away with all 6 points for a great win.

Having lost the toss Breakaway decided to bat first on their wicket and found scoring quickly was not easy with Zaheer and Amar (Bollywood) bowling with great speed and accuracy in tandem upfront. Breakaway found themselves at 64 for 0 at the 13th over break in dire need of fast runs in the second half.

Some players should take notice of his attire for semi finals day, it may help with ball impacts and potential bruising.

Once the innings commenced the Breakaway batsmen started to find boundaries and their scoring rate went up drastically as they added an additional 125 in the next 12 overs to post a solid 189 all out. The bowling award for Yaadboyz went to their skipper Basil who sneaked in at the end with 3 good wickets. Shankar and Jay both hit fifties for their side.

Yaadboyz got off to the worse possible start as Johnno was out in the first over from a spectacular catch at square leg. The run rate was still pretty good with the boundaries coming every over before Cliff was out for 21 followed by Ravi. Meanwhile, Altaf was smashing the ball high, wide, and handsome, as he tore into the Breakaway bowlers. With Basil at the other end batting sensibly giving him the strike the Yaadboyz went to the break sitting pretty at 114 for 3.

Altaf was out in the first over after the game resumption for a well played 57. The next partnership between Basil and English saw their team near the winning score with English out for 33 in the 22nd over with only 5 runs needed. Basil fittingly hit the winning runs to finish the game and also see his personal score reach 54 not out and claim the MVP award for his top all round performance as the Yaadboyz won the game with 5 wickets to spare.

With all the regular season games finishing, the Yaadboyz end up second in the table which sees them automatically qualify for the semi finals where they will meet the winners of the Lehigh CC or Warriors CC game in 2 weeks time.

Yaadboyz CC beat Miami Royals in round 10

Round 10 saw Yaadboyz CC take on Miami Royals at Southridge Park and come away with 6 points for their 8 wicket win.

Hey, Johnno we made better use for your car while you were away.

Having lost the toss the Yaadboyz had to field first in hot temperatures meaning drinking 10 beers minimum was the required intake before cooling off.

The Royals started off badly losing too many wickets upfront and were always struggling to score runs freely. Amar , Bayo, Retesh, Terry, and Ravi all took wickets to see the Royals bowled out for 57 in a great team bowling performance straight out of the top drawer. Justin showed great promise with the bat for the Royals but they still need to persevere and encourage him 100/% for the next few years so he can reach his true potential. Good luck for the future and well played Justin.

With only 57 to win, Chris and Cliff opened the innings for Yaadboyz and went about the task in the only way they knew best. See ball hit ball !!!!

Chris was out for a quick 23 and Cliff ended up with 28 not out to see Yaadboyz win the game in a canter losing only 2 wickets in the process.

Once the customary handshakes were finished, the Yaadboyz and Royals did their best to down as much as possible before the light faded before venturing off back home in search for the Bengay. It was great to catch up with ex team mates from years gone by and exchange old time stories once again. We would also like to thank the Royals (Sunil, Boey, Narine,Uncle Singh and co...) for their great hospitality. Food and drinks were plenty as always.

Next week the Yaadboyz visit Breakaway CC in their final game of the regular season at Willie Webb Park.
