Hustlers get 6 points Early in Round 8

Hustlers 2 have already got the win and 6 points for their next scheduled game against Takers CC after the side from Lehigh called in and gave the walkover win.

It is always sad when a team gives a walkover for one reason or another and we at Hustlers appreciate the early call today rather than leaving it to the last minute and not showing up.

Rest and sleep this sunday for Hustlers
Walkovers in the SFSCL generally come towards the end of the regular season when teams have nothing to play for and their players have no motivation to honor the fixture. This is something the league needs to look into as future walkovers in future seasons does impact other teams who are all playing to make a playoff.

The league has to come up with a better solution other than fining teams for a non showing.

The division is still looking pretty tight with potentially 7 teams all still in the hunt for a last 4 position.

With still 4 rounds to play the games will come become more competive for everybody involved but Hustlers find themselves in a strong position and this time around they won't be watching other teams results as they themselves look to lock in a playoff position from their own performances.

Hustlers beat Miami Royals in Round 7

Hustlers 2 headed off to sunny Southridge in their latest league fixture against the unbeaten Miami Royals squad and came away with a hard fought victory thanks to some inspired bowling from Amar, more runs from Chris's bat and a cool head at the end by allrounder Ravi.

Amar 5 for 14
Hustlers won the toss and put Miami into bat first and after an aggressive start, Miami went to the break at 92 for 2. The Hustler bowling attack was bowling an array of all sorts as the Miami batters helped themselves to boundary balls once an over. Amar bowled immaculately in his first spell as well as Mohan.
After the break the Miami run rate slowed down as the Hustlers bowlers struck with 4 quick wickets led by Amar who grabbed 5 wickets for 14 runs in a top class bowling performance. Mohan 2 wickets for 27, Terry 1 for 23, and Retesh 1 for 31 all shared the rest of the wickets between them as the Miami team finished their 25 overs with a score of 144 for 9.

Retesh  1 for 31 & Devya aftergame pose

Satti & Terry 1 for 23
Hustlers went to bat with the same prolific opening partnership they have done so far all season of Cliff and Chris. They both found it hard scoring runs quickly but when they needed a boundary they found it. At the 13th over interval they were both still there with the score reading 74 for 0.Cliff soon lost his wicket after the resumption and left Ravi and Chris to take the score to 134 before Chris was out for 79. With 7 needed to win off the last over, Ravi found his range and sent a 6 over deep mid on off the first ball of the 25th over to tie the scores. A scrambled run off the second delivery saw the Hustler team home with 4 balls to spare. Ravi finished on 35 not out.

Chris 79
The end result was a win for Hustlers but the game could have gone either way with some tight bowling from the Miami bowlers led by Rajin, Marky,  and Steve who all bowled beautifully to keep their own team in the game.

The Hustler outfielding was superb once again with some fine catches in the outfield and as the season and games start running out, the Hustler team performances get better every week which only bodes well for the Hustler organisation and the rest of the season.

The Hustler crew would like to thank Sunil and his team for the great hospitality in hosting us as it is always a pleasurable trip coming down to Miami for league cricket.

Next week Hustlers face Takers CC at the Yard in round 8.

Hustlers 2 next game v Miami Royals CC

Hustlers 2 next game is against the undefeated Miami Royals team this coming sunday being played at Southridge Baseball Field.

Players are to be reminded to be early at the ground and pack all your coolers, food, change of clothes and first aid bandages on saturday night and not leave it all for sunday morning.

There will be no tolerance for lateness and any drunken behavior needs to be put on hold until after the game has at least finished.

This game will be a big test for the Hustler squad as they look to go level on points with the Miami team. If they play to their full potential, then they could give them a tough game. However, if Hustlers go into the game thinking that it will be an easy walkover, then they could be in for a rude awakening.

Hustlers beat Starlite in Round 6

Hustlers 2 beat Starlite by 9 wickets in their latest league game yesterday but not everything went to plan once the game started.

Amar & Basil celebrating the win.
Starlite won the toss and decided to bat first but soon lost one of their openers in the first over bowled by Mohan. A solid partnership was then formed by the next batsman before  Hustlers got their second wicket. At the break Starlite were comfortably placed at 101 for 2. The Hustler bowling attack bowled too many loose deliveries that were seen dissapearing over the ropes for six all too regulary.

After the break the Hustlers bowlers then started to bowl more accurately and saw the Starlite run flow stutter. Mohan and Amar bowled superbly in the second half of the innings.Ravi bowled better in the second half as well and captured 4 quick wickets to leave Starlite end of innings score at a respectable 193 for 7 with Richard top scoring with a 50.

Mohan taking a break after another fine bowling performance.
Hustlers went to bat knowing a solid and quick start was needed and were soon off to the races as both Cliff and Chris set about the Starlite bowling with some clean hitting. Cliff was severe on anything bowled around his leg stump as he heaved 6 after 6 over the square leg boundary in his usual trademark manner.

At the 13th over break both Cliff and Chris were still there and both not out with the Hustler score reading 120 for 0. After the interval Cliff was then caught out in the deep for a fine 65 and with the score needed down to 45 off 9 remaining overs, They had put on season high team partnership of 144 for the first wicket.Chris and Ravi saw their team home in the 22nd over without any further alarms with no more wickets lost. With the scores tied at 193 and Chris on 95, he needed a six to reach his own milestone century score. He duly gave the awaiting spectators what they were waiting for with a pulled six into the mid wicket boundary to reach his century and finish the game.Chris finished on 101 not out and Ravi 15 not out.

Cliff & Chris 144 opening partnership.

Chris 101 not out

King, Joanie, & Terry
Generally it was a good batting performance by the Hustler top order batsmen who made the run chase look easy but more work has to be done with consitency when bowling. Players have to be reminded that no game in this division is going to be easy and to become a serious playoff team, then the mindset has to be right before and during game time.

Next week Hustlers 2 travel up to meet the undefeated Miami Royals squad at Southridge Baseball Ground.

West Indies steal tie off panicked Pakistan

Pakistan 229 for 6 (Misbah 75, Akmal 40*) tied with West Indies 229 for 9 (Simmons 75, Samuels 46, Holder 19*, Ajmal 3-36)

After 97 overs of play, Pakistan were clearly the better side on the day, and by some distance. Needing 39 off the last three then, with only two wickets in hand, West Indies managed to induce an almighty panic in the Pakistan ranks, which included the first boundary hit off Saeed Ajmal - three came in one cluster now; a fielder failing to pick the ball in the deep, costing them three runs; poor field settings in the last over with 15 to defend against the last pair; and then an easy run-out fluffed last ball to allow West Indies a tie. West Indies celebrated as if they had won, and Pakistan were crestfallen, which was about right.

West Indies beat Pakistan in Guyana

West Indies 232 for 8 (Darren Bravo 54) beat Pakistan 195 (Jamshed 54, Akmal 50, Narine 4-26) by 37 runs

Misbah-ul-Haq is bowled by Darren Sammy
West Indies were unusually generous in the field but their batting showed signs of returning to form and Sunil Narine roared back to his best as they overcame Pakistan in Providence to level the series at one-each. West Indies themselves had been helped by a sloppy effort from Pakistan's bowlers, who conceded a whopping 38 extras in a low-scoring game.

Hustlers beat top side Breakaway CC

Hustlers 2 put in their best performance of the season and defeated the number one side Breakaway CC in Round 5 of Div 2 yesterday.

Having won the toss Hustlers invited the Breakaway team to have first hit at the Yard. Breakthroughs early on saw Hustler get rid of the openers and make inroads into their middle order. Amar, Mohan, Ravi, and Retesh all bowled well together with only a few loose deliveries being bowled.

Go to man, Ravi was the best bowler of the day as he took 5 wickets for 34 runs. Retesh once again bowled well and ended up with 3 wickets of his own. Mohan took 2 fantastic catches in the outfield with the best one his one handed effort on the mid wicket boundary. The Hustler outfielding was superb as they held onto all their catches to back up their bowlers effort.

Breakaway's final innings score was 135 all out.

Hustler went to bat and lost Cliff in the first over shortly followed by Ravi. However, Chris and Deo went to the break both not out with the halfway score at 71 for 2.

Deo 50 not out
After the break Chris continued his impressive season so far with another fifty plus score and was soon joined by Deo who ended up with 50 not out. They both saw their team home in the 17th over with some sensible batting. Deo made his first half century for the Hustlers team after previously coming close early on in the season a couple of times. He batted with a  great maturity and good application as he punished the wayward bowling with some classy shots all around the ground. We expect more from his bat as the season continues though.

The Hustler squad enjoyed their usual aftermatch social with some good tales with Breakaway and saw off a good day in the office with a few more celebratory drinks at Hibiscus before retiring home to rest up their aching bodies.

Next week Hustlers 2 entertain Starlite CC at 19th Street.

Masters in NY

The Masters team won their first game by walk over but lost their 2nd game to Betterhope on Friday.
They defeated Tristate Masters on saturday morning with some superb bowling from Amar Singh, Mike Balkaran, and Bar Persaud, limiting Tristate to 103 all out. Muniram Pooran, Cliff Rahaman, and Anthony Dhannie batted well to see their team home and earned their semi final spot versus a strong Guyana Floodlights team. Tiredeness, fatigue and playing with two injured players didn't help their cause in the semi final as the Guyana team's opener was dropped first ball of the game as well as the number 2 batsmen being dropped in the second off both off the bowling of Amar.

The SFSCL team played without a recognised keeper and even though they tried, Guyana scored 199 runs in their 20 overs. In reply SFSCL only managed to score 167 for 4 when the overs ran out.

The SFSCL would like to thank all the players who made the trip and tried their hardest to compete.
The league know that it took a lot of time and dedication for the trip and congratulate you all on reaching the semi finals with a team made up of last minute selections and wish the team better luck next time around.

Hopefully next time the better availabilty of players can make the trip to NY and compete against the other sides.

Ramdin dropped for Pakistan ODIs

West Indies have left out wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin from their squad for the first two ODIs against Pakistan in Guyana later this month. Fast bowler Ravi Rampaul, who injured his ankle in the opening match of the ODI tri-series a couple of weeks ago, remains sidelined. There were no other changes from the squad that West Indies picked for the tri-series ODIs in Trinidad.

Ramdin has hit only one half-century since his recall to the West Indies one-day side in October 2011, and has been dropped in several recent matches, both during the Champions Trophy and the home tri-series which also featured India and Sri Lanka. In Ramdin's absence West Indies used opener Johnson Charles behind the stumps, and haven't picked any specialist wicketkeeper in the squad.

Denesh Ramdin was bowled for 4, West Indies v India, West Indies tri-series, Kingston, June 30, 2013
West Indies haven't had too much success in the one-day format over the past 12 months, having lost away to Bangladesh and Australia besides a disappointing Champions Trophy campaign. They were also knocked out of the home tri-series before the final, and the only recent series win is the home victory over lightweights Zimbabwe.

They will be looking to improve that record when Pakistan arrive for five ODIs and two Twenty20s. The series begins on Sunday, with the first ODI in Guyana.

Squad for first two ODIs
  • Dwayne Bravo (captain), Tino Best, Darren Bravo, Johnson Charles, Chris Gayle, Jason Holder, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Kemar Roach, Darren Sammy, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons, Devon Smith

Hustlers 2 next game v Breakaway CC

The Hustlers squad are back in league action this coming sunday when they face number 1 side Breakaway CC at Lauderhill Middle School in round 5.

Hustlers 2

Hustlers are coming off a big loss to D Diamond in their last game while Breakaway look to continue their impressive start to the season having gone undefeated so far after 4 rounds of games.

Amar, Cliff, and Basil are all back from their weekend trip to NY after representing the Florida Masters team in a tournament the SFSCL kept undercover with no result updates on the league website. Surprisingly, the league needs a gentle shove as to why no news or updates were given as to how both Florida teams performed over the weekend. Even though there are a lot of players in the SFSCL who don't seem to mind where their money is spent, there are still a lot of members who would like to know what is going on in this league.

Darren Bravo reacts after Lendl Simmons' dismissal
Sri Lanka are not yet officially through, but they will have to play a very very horrible match to be thrown out of the tournament now. It's practically between India and West Indies now. India will have to win by either a bonus point or a certain margin to deny West Indies (India's NRR is -.524 to West Indies' -.383). Sri Lanka will have to lose by a huge huge margin to let both India and West Indies through.

Plans for Florida's stadium to be redeveloped.

In a move that could strike a devastating blow to the development of cricket in America, the city of Lauderhill, Florida is in the process of initiating a business plan to redevelop the cricket stadium inside the Central Broward Regional Park into a facility more suitable for other sports and activities that will generate enough revenue to sustain the operating costs of the facility. In a sternly worded letter by Lauderhill Mayor Richard J Kaplan addressed to ICC chief executive David Richardson dated April 9 and obtained by ESPNcricinfo, Kaplan blames the USA Cricket Association for the facility's lack of revenue from marquee cricket events mainly due to the governing body's failure to facilitate such events.

Central Broward Regional Park
"After several years of under utilization by our sanctioning cricket body USACA, the City of Lauderhill and Broward County have had to look at other alternative uses for the stadium that will sell tickets to fill seats," Kaplan wrote. "As a result, Broward County is about to release an independent business plan which will advise government officials that it is time to consider a reconfiguration of the stadium to a sport that can better sustain the facility and provide an economic return."
