Breakaway (24pts) and Miami Royals (24pts) now remain as the only 2 undefeated teams so far this season after Round 4 of the SFSCL Div 2 Championship.

There are no scheduled games this coming sunday in both divsions due to the Independance Cup in New York.

The Hustlers 2 squad would like to wish our 3 soldiers Basil, Amar, and Cliff the best of luck as they represent the league in the Legends Cup for South Florida.Good luck guys.

Hustlers 2 lose to D Diamond CC in a high scoring game......Round 4

Hustlers 2 managed to lose their last league game after failing to defend their score of 241.
D Diamond chased down the 241 with ease with 5 with overs to spare.

Hustler captain Basil won the toss and decided to bat first in the bright sunshine. Chris and Cliff went about opening the innings in their usual manner and were being pretty severe on the loose bowling early on. Cliff went for 17 with the score at 58. Deo managed to get himself stumped but Chris and Basil saw their team safely into the mid innings break at a solid 110 for 2. Chris 81 not out and Basil 12 not out.

After the break Chris completed his century before he was caught for 107. Basil 25, Mukesh 26, and Ravi 45 all played well and ensured the Hustler innings finished at respectable 241.

Diamond got off to the worst possible start in their run chase when they lost their skipper first ball. After that, it was pretty much an exhibition of 6 hitting by all the Diamond batsmen as they chased down the 241 with ease. Tribene smashed a quick and entertaining 71 to lead his team home.

Amar 4 for 35 was the pick of the Hustler bowlers on the day but he was badly let down by the rest of the bowling outfit as they all struggled to bowl in the correct lines and lengths.

So Hustlers managed to pull off a loss from the hands of victory by playing badly when they bowled. Big questions are being asked about their bowling outfit who all took a legendary beating. If you can't defend 241 at the yard, then something is seriously wrong somewhere.The  team think tank will need to come up with a better plan of action for improvement next time around.

So it's back to the drawing board for the bowlers who will all need to rethink that bowling is not always about bowling fast all the time. Accuracy, variation, and using the pitch to it's fullest are some traits our bowlers need to come to terms with very quickly otherwise repetition of results like this will become a habit.

All in all it was a great game of cricket for all the spectators as they enjoyed the competiveness of league cricket in the SFSCL. The D Diamond team is always a good game for us and even better fun after the game as old time stories and also new ones were exchanged by both teams. It was a nice day in the park for everybody even though we lost by the better team on the day.Congrats for the win D Diamond and well played....you guys deserved the win.

Next week there is a break from league cricket as there are no league games scheduled due to the New York Independance Cup.

India in the West Indies

After lifting the Champions Trophy with a remarkable unbeaten run, the victorious Indian cricket team on Wednesday departed for Jamaica to compete in an ODI tri-series against the West Indies and Sri Lanka starting June 28.

The first three matches of the series would be played in Jamaica (from June 28 to July 2) before the action shifts to Trinidad (from July 5 to July 11).

India will open their campaign against the West Indies on June 30.

Hustlers beat Lehigh

Hustlers 2 took care of business in their lastest league game when they faced Lehigh Indians CC at Lauderhill Middle School yesterday in Round 3 of the SFSCL.

Having won the toss, Hustlers started agressively and soon were scoring at a quick rate. Captain Basil, promoted himself up the order and scored all around the ground with an innings worth the entrance fee for the spectators. He eventually fell for a swashbuckling 71. Ravi 36, Deo 38, and Cliff 30 all batted with aggresion as well to see the Hustlers innings close at 209 for 6 in 25 overs.

Lehigh knew they would have to get off to a flying start but good opening spells from Mohan and Ravi saw them struggle early on. The ever improving Retesh bowled 5 tight overs in his spell, but the cream of the bowlers was Terry who ended up with figures of 5 for 24 to see Lehigh bowled out for 159.

Highlight of the day was when Basil gave Chris the ball to bowl to take the last wicket with an immaculate two ball spell as he ended up with figures of 1 for 0. It was a top of the line bowling performance from the opening batsman showing that celebrating a wicket means a lot for him other than hitting a team fifty as he celebrated like he had just won the lottery.

West Indies drop Sarwan for ODI tri-series

Batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan has been dropped from the West Indies squad for the first half of the tri-series involving India and Sri Lanka, which begins on June 28. Fast bowler Jason Holder was also left out of the 13-man squad that was named, on Saturday, for the Jamaica leg of the tournament. There were no other changes made to the squad that played the Champions Trophy in England.

Wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin, who was suspended for two ODIs for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct when he claimed a catch off Misbah-ul-Haq during the Champions Trophy game against Pakistan, will be available to play.

Breaking News.....Pakistan and the West Indies to play T20 matches in US

The Pakistan and the West Indies Cricket Boards have reached an agreement to play a T20 international series in the United States in July this year.

According to PCB sources, the two boards have agreed to organise a two-match series in Miami, Florida after Pakistan team`s tour to West Indies in July.

The source said the Pakistan team would tour West Indies from July 7 to play five ODI matches and after that both teams would fly to Miami for the two T20 matches.
"There is a big Pakistani and West Indian expatriate community in Miami and other parts of Florida and they are expected to show keen interest in these two matches," the source said.

The source, however, admitted that one of the biggest hurdles in way of the two matches being held in Miami was getting visas on time for the Pakistani players.

It was March 31, 1995, West Indies v Australia, Bridgetown: the first morning of the first Test. Australia, off to a flyer, had taken three wickets for six when Cool Carl walked to the crease.

Immediately Shane Warne was brought into the attack to bowl the 10th over of the series. He went round the wicket. The first ball was met yards down the pitch and deposited in the air to the long-on boundary. Down the pitch to the second, Hooper inside-edged to fine leg for four more. The third received the same treatment as the first: 12 from the first three balls. By lunch, Hooper and Brian Lara, in a memorable counter-attack, had put on precisely 100 together. That was Hooper's potential. His second Test innings brought a century in Calcutta, but all too often he failed to deliver.

A mid-thirties average is a dereliction of duty for a batsman of his exquisite charms and ability. The captaincy, which he took on after a prolonged absence from the side, briefly brought out the best in him, and for two years he averaged nearer 50. But, following a disappointing World Cup in 2003, he was replaced by Lara and once more reverted to semi-retirement.

Hooper finished playing Test cricket for the West Indies in 2002 with 13 hundreds and 27 scores of fifty. His final average was 36.6 with his highest innings score being 233.

1. A full-pitched delivery (full toss) that passes above the batsman shoulder at his normal standing height shall be called a no ball.

2. A short-pitched delivery (bouncer) that passes above the batsman shoulder at his normal standing height shall be called a no ball.

3. A delivery that is above the batsman shoulder at his normal standing height but has also been adjudged a wide, must be called a no ball. A no ball takes precedence over a wide.

Now all you so called experts out there in the SFSCL will finally now realise that a no ball is deemed to be above the batsman's shoulder, and not above the batsman's head like a lot of you specialist umpires think.

Ponting to retire from all forms of cricket

	Ricky Ponting will play for Mumbai Indians at the Champions League T20 before retiring from cricket

Ricky Ponting, the former Australia captain and one of the greatest batsmen of the modern age, will retire from all cricket in October. The 38-year-old is currently in England playing county cricket for Surrey but he has said that the Champions League T20 campaign with Mumbai Indians, winners of this year's IPL, will be his last competitive outing. 

"While I'm enjoying my cricket as much as ever, it just feels like the right time to finish playing," Ponting told the Daily Mail. "My body and mind are in great shape and I know I'm going to really enjoy these last few months before the next stage of life begins." 

Ponting announced his Test retirement during Australia's home series against South Africa last year, making a farewell appearance in the defeat at Perth. In 168 Test matches he amassed 13378 runs, second only to Sachin Tendulkar, as well as 13704 runs in ODIs, winning three World Cups, two as captain.

Pomersbach replaces Chanderpaul in CPL

West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul has withdrawn from the inaugural edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) due to contractual obligations with English county Derbyshire. He will be replaced in the St Lucia franchise by Australia batsman Luke Pomersbach.

Chanderpaul signed a contract with CPL offering himself for selection but later realised that his commitment to Derbyshire allowed a release only if it pertained to playing for West Indies. 

"I am extremely sorry that I will not be able to participate in the CPL because of contractual obligations," Chanderpaul said. "I would definitely like to make myself available for the next edition, and will have my contracts carry a clause that will permit me to play in future editions of T20 tournaments."

After 2 rounds of games played, the Hustlers team remain undefeated so far. It is always nice to start off the season winning games but tougher tests await later on in the season.

Hustlers beat Warriors in a rout

Hustlers put on a master display of cricket as they faced Warriors in Round 2 of the SFSCL today.

Hustler captain Basil won the toss and decided to bat first and with early losses of Chris, Cliff, and Mohan within the first 13 overs faced, they were still sitting pretty at 76 for 3 at the break.

The next 12 overs saw some aggresive batting by the Hustler middle order as firstly Ravi 38, Basil 37no, and Sookraj 44 all displayed fine stroke play as they pushed the Hustler end of innings score to 193 for 7. Sookraj played the innings of the day as he hit 4 sixes in his short innings and with Basil 37no, they put on 73 runs in 6 entertaining overs.

Warriors got off to the worse start imaginable at the beginning as they lost their first 3 batsmen for only 18 runs on the board. Amar 2 for 8 and Ravi 5 for 24 including a hattrick were the chief destroyers with the ball as they saw the Warriors batsmen fail to score quickly and were soon struggling to stay in the game.

The rest of the Warriors innings came to a premature end as Mohan bowling in his first over finished off the innings with 3 quick wickets to end up with figures of 3 for 7 and leave Warriors total at 56 all out in 11 overs faced.

In all it was a top performance firstly by the Hustler batters and then was backed up by the Hustler bowlers as they secured a comprehensive victory to avenge the loss they suffered at the hands of Warriors last season.

Ravi once again put in a top all round performance with both bat and ball as he led his side to a brilliant victory. Surprisingly, he still classes himself as a batter who can bowl at bit when conditions favour him. The rest of us players tend to agree with him and his thoughts at the moment.

Next sunday Hustler 2 CC entertain Lehigh Indians at Lauderhill Middle School.

The Caribbean Premier League announced the team names and logos for the six participating franchises through a media release on Friday. The inaugural Caribbean Premier League is scheduled to begin on July 30.

 

Suggestions for the team names were invited through social media and CPL chief Damien O'Donohoe said: "We are thrilled with the final team names and the logos. We believe they are reflective of the character and culture of each country, and I'm sure each team will live up to their name. Our fans had some very inspired suggestions, which were taken into consideration, and definitely contributed to the creative process which resulted in these names."

 

The 15-man squads for the six teams were finalised through a draft on June 6. The League features top West Indies players like Marlon Samuels, Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Chris Gayle, Darren Sammy and Dwayne Bravo. Among international players, Ricky Ponting, Muttiah Muralitharan, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez, Herschelle Gibbs and Ross Taylor have been been signed on by franchises.

USACA plans to resume national tournaments

The USA Cricket Association (USACA) announced on Friday its intention to stage a Men's National Tournament at a newly developed cricket facility in the city of Indianapolis, Indiana beginning in 2014. A joint press release by USACA and Indy Parks stated that USACA will host a four-day national championship involving eight regional teams in Indianapolis every summer from 2014-2016.

Last month, the city of Indianapolis approved plans for a $6 million multi-sport facility to be built on the east side of the city at the site of Post Road Community Park. Plans for the cricket facility were first reported by ESPNcricinfo in 2009. In addition to cricket, the facility will also have sports fields designed for soccer, rugby and lacrosse among other sports. According to a source, the cricket fields will have artificial pitches in order to make the facility easier to maintain for multi-sport purposes.

Rumors have been circulating since May that the West Indies and Pakistan have agreed to play a pair of T20 matches in Florida next month following Pakistan's scheduled ODI tour to the Caribbean, but a USACA official would not confirm that any matches have been agreed to be staged in Florida. No formal announcement has been made by the PCB or WICB either.

South Africa through after rain-affected tie

It has been a decade since South Africa's miscalculation of Duckworth-Lewis saw them exit the World Cup in the first round. Finally, they will consider themselves redeemed. 

In a twist of fate as perfectly formed as the ringlet on a young girl's crop of hair, West Indies exited the Champions Trophy after a rain-affected tied match. After 26.1 overs, with six wickets down, they needed 191 runs to win the match. They left the field on 190 for 6 as the drizzle drifted down. The result awards a point to each side and South Africa will progress to the semi-finals by virtue of a greater net run rate. 

If ever one ball was wholly decisive for the outcome of a match, this was it. Kieron Pollard was dismissed off the first ball of the 27th over when he threw his bat at a Ryan McLaren short ball, and was caught at third man. Had Pollard not been dismissed, West Indies would have won the match because they were ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis par score for five wickets down.

Hustlers next game v Warriors

Hustlers 2 meet Warriors CC in Round 2 of the SFSCL this sunday.

The game will be played at Lauderhill Middle School with a 12 30pm start time.

Last season Warriors beat Hustlers in a high scoring game and this time around the Hustler team will look to turn the tables and look for the win.
