Hustlers beat Miami Royals in Round 3 SFSCL

Hustlers managed another good performance against a very strong Miami Royals team in round 3 to take the 6 points in the SFSCL earlier today.

Having been put into bat by Miami, the Hustlers innings started off poorly after John was brilliantly caught at short cover in the 3rd over with 19 on the scoreboard. Ravi and Chris then solidly rebuilt the innings with some smart batting as well as a lot of luck as the Miami fielders put down numerous catches on offer. The two of them took advantage of their good fortune as the innings progressed at a steady pace.

Ravi and Chris went to the break undefeated with the score at 74 for 1.

Ravi 74 & 4 for 28
After the break Chris completed his fifty, shortly followed by Ravi and the both of them decided to up the tempo of the run rate by hitting boundaries to all parts of the ground. Chris was finally out in the 19th over for a workmanlike 79 and Ravi fell later for a fluent 74. Their partnership together of 128 for the second wicket was not an easy one at the start but the longer they stayed at the wicket, the easier it became for them both.

The Hustler innings ended at competitive 199 for 9 in their 25 overs faced.

Miami knew they would have to come out aggresively and were soon forcing shots. Two quick wickets fell but Sunil and Rajin took their team to the break at 84 for 2. Another 114 in the next 12 overs would have been a big ask but not impossible for the Miami team,.

Amar bowled the best over of the innings after the break and had the dangerous Rajin caught behind in the 14th over. Left hander Sunil followed quickly after and the Miami innings struggled to pick up again with the run rate climbing steadily and batsmen getting out. The catching and ground fielding for Hustlers was outstanding which made life very difficult for the Miami batsmen to score with ease.

The last Miami wicket fell  in the 23rd over with their score at 157.

The Hustler bowlers once again put in a top performance collectively with the outstanding bowling coming from Ravi with final figures of 4 for 27. Amar 3 for 12, Sanjeev 2 for 28, and Terry 1 for 9 were the other contributors.

Miami, as always, were a tough team to play against and we would like to wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season. They also are one of the fairest and most respected teams in the division and during league action they play the way the game should be played without any dramas, they are also great ambassadors in the SFSCL. Both teams enjoyed the customary story telling and leg pulling between themselves after the game which is the real reason why we play cricket most sundays. It is not always about the win all the time as both of these showed.

After a break from league action next week due to Presidents Day preparations for the Florida Cup, the Hustlers team will face Warriors at Tamarac in Round 4.

Once again we would like to thank our supporters for coming out and backing our side, Devya for scoring the book as well as thanks to Mike for the preparation of the gameday food.

  1. Hustlers always relying on Ravi and english to produce and once again they did, These two should always be in a masters team for sfscl. Why are they not considered?SFSCL politics bs is the answer,

  2. Thanks for the comment but who said Ravi is old enough for the Masters team? Is there confirmation somewhere he is old enough now?

  3. If he was old enough then these two need to be the first 2 names on the league side.

  4. Somewhere I heard they are allowing two players under 40 and Ravi has to be close to 40 now.

    1. Ravi has been 40 since 2007. His calendar stopped working in his house for 7 years now....haha

  5. English is not good enough for the 45's. He scores all his runs against handicap bowling. I like him as a person but not for our league team. There is better players then him, Razak, Jay,Vijay, Bud, Razak (superkings), Fatbai, John, Sadick, are all better batsmen.

    1. Anonymous, while it's debatable who's better, teams should be picked on form (stats), not who's better and your buddies/ favorites.

All the names you mentioned pass their prime. You're one of the reason the League's going nowhere.

    2. MR ANONYMOUS. YOU ARE BLIND TO THINK THEY ARE ALL BETTER THAN HIM IN CURRENT FORM. DIV 1 OR DIV 2 DOESN'T MEAN A THING IN THE 45 TEAM. ALL THEM GUYS YOU MENTIONED ARE GOOD PLAYERS BUT WHAT HAVE THEY DONE RECENTLY?

    3. Man you need to open your eyes up and see what English has done with the bat for the last 2 years. The man keeps churning out runs against everybody home and away. If he was useless and not good enough for the masters team then does that mean all the bowling he face are all handicappped? If I were in charge of that team he would make my squad.

  6. British is one of the most consistent batters in the league. Just check his run count.

    1. Agreed. Who else has amassed the same amount of runs he has apart from Kaiume and he is always locked into the league side with no questions asked.

    2. british is only a batter. that is why he can't make the team. the league wants bits and pieces players who do both bowling and batting. good player though. classy guy off the pitch and classy player on it

    3. Any team is made up of specialists whether they bowl, bat or are an allrounder. 11 average allrounders wont win you games.

    4. Slipman fuh president..

Can't win games with bits and pieces players.

    5. Pick your best 15 using stats as a guideline. go with 5 batsmen, a keeper, 3 allrounders ,and 2 out an out bowlers in your 11. The capt must be somebody everybody looks up to as their leader. If they play as one then no one can beat the florida squad. They always fall short because they spend most of the time infighting with each other.

  7. THE LEAGUE SHOULD SAVE THEIR MONEY AND LET INDEPENDANT TEAMS ENTER. TOO MANY ISSUES ORGANSIING A SQUAD IS A YEARLY HEADACHE FOR THE EXECS.

    1. This is an interesting idea. Make teams enter with their own squads. The Florida Cup is not a league championship anymore anyway. Just look at the teams coming down from NY.

    2. If they want to spend the league money, how about subsidising the players costs to NY and Guyana. That way they will get a stronger squad to go.

    3. ..... the execs already know how to save money on the fl cup food....COOK IT YOURSELF and bill the league

    1. Basil and John name missing but Mike is there. This Hustler team has enough over age players to form their own masters squad. Forgot Cliff and Amar as well. Also the tall left hander batsman. Thats already 6 plus english and the youngest 45 yr old in history Ravi.Total 8. Also King available makes 9. Bring in a few from Hustler 1 Vijay, Fatbai, Smally, Trevor and you almost have a full squad.Maybe next year guys or a NY trip?

    1. To the Tall Leftie. Nice to see you have your priorities correct. Selection criteria if you play in our side involves how many beers you can drink and how long you can stay after the games finishes. In your case both are checked accordingly.

    2. Not that I am aware of.He likes running in off his long run up with his long hair blowing in the wind going from side to side aka Imran Khan.

      Delete
    3. Well, he can't be a good bowler with that 70's hairstyle.

He worries too much about the hair rather than where the ball will end up ..hahha

      Delete
    4. He is an exceptional bowler with long hair by what he keeps telling us every week. " I got 9 wickets for 1 run back in the day " he says....That day, I assume was just before the wheel was invented.

  15. There are three shocking surprises that took place in the history of international sports. The first was when the USA hockey team defeated Russia in the 1982 winter opympics. The second is when Darren Sammy was noninated captain of the West Indies Cricket team and the third is when Terry beat out Ravi in the votes for vice captain of the Hustlers two cricket team.
