Match Report Hustlers v LHCC

The day started off badly for Hustlers when the skipper, Basil, and another team member, British, were made to wait for another player, Ravi, while he took time polishing his head for 45 minutes. Having arrived at the planned pickup point late, the vehicle was running late as well.

The 15 seater finally left after 10am with time to catch up after the late departure. With the driver's foot down and passing most vehicles on route, the Hustler squad arrived into Veterans Park before the game start time and were quickly ushered to spin the coin.

Being it was Amar's birthday, some players thought it would be lucky to let him spin. He duly lost the toss so plan A didn't not work as his being lucky tag dissappered very quickly. LHCC decided to bat first with temperatures recorded at 94c. After a proper baking in the sun the LHCC team amassed a respectable 178 for 8 off their 25 overs.

The Hustler team fielding was once again a letdown with a few bad attempts at stopping boundaries as well as a few dropped catches. Just these errors on the field cost Hustlers around 25 runs which eventually came back to haunt them.

Hustlers Cliff and Chris opened the batting and at the break they were at 70. It may have been a solid start to the run chase but not quick enough as the run rate was still high and steadily climbing. Chris was out first with the score at 93. The remaining batsmen all tried to hit boundaries to keep up with the escalating run rate with Mukesh and Mike being very destructive. A middle order collapse pretty much ended Hustler hopes of a victory but it still went to the last ball needing 4 for a win. Sanjeev was unlucky with his attempt at finding the required boundary as news filtered in during the game that Breakaway had lost their last game as well meaning a semi final game scheduled against Lehigh Indians CC.

Before everybody starts thinking that Hustlers threw this game, I would like to say it was a very good performance by the LHCC in beating us. They beat us fair and square simply because they were better than us on the day and we wish them all the success next season as they are a top side.

LHCC defended their 178 score magnificently and with their bowlers bowling straight and accurately, they played like a top side rather than a mid table side.

The customary drinks were once again downed at Mukesh's house before the journey home and we were all treated to Cliff's roof beating expertise as well as Amar's attempt to sing for amusement.

Even though we lost in this close game we are still able to look forward next week to our semi final game which will be against Lehigh Indians. This means another road trip to Lehigh for us but with plenty of amusement on board, the journey will be another fun one in our biggest game of the season.

We would also like to wish Amar a very happy birthday for reaching his very first half century. His cake was cut and shared around in between all the usual liquid refreshments. Congrats mate on your special day.
Happy birthday Amar

Hustlers beat Guyana Heat

The penultimate game in the SFSCL for Hustlers saw them win in a close encounter with Guyana Heat CC yesterday to claim another 6 points.

A little pre match get together.
Hustlers won the toss and put Guyana Heat into bat first on a glorious day of sunshine at the Yard. Early wickets were taken by the Hustlers bowling attack before Guyana Heat started scoring freely to all parts of the ground and reach 73 for 5 at the break. The ground fielding and catching was very poor for Hustlers to add as they put down 4 crucial catches.

Another 70 odd runs were scored in the second half of their innings to see their total reach 143 all out with Ravi taking 3 wickets for 15, Sanjeev 3 for 34, and Amar 2 for 15 the best of the Hustlers bowling effort.

Hustlers went to bat and started off strong with early boundaries being hit before John was first out. With the scoring rate well past the required rate the Hustlers batsmen then decided to give away their wickets in a frenzy as they started to play undisciplined cricket.

Johnno warming up
At the break they had 95 on the board but had lost their top 4 batsmen.

It all boiled down to some sensible batting from Cliff, Sanjeev, and Amar to see their team home in a game they had made hard for themselves. Six points were collected but many of the Hustler batsmen need to take a week off and think why some of them played irresponsible shots when there was no need for panic.

Next week Hustlers venture off to Lehigh once again as they face LHCC in their last regular season game. A win will see them top the division in another important fixture for the Yard boys.

Hustlers find themselves at number 2 position after their rain affected game last week.

Two more games are scheduled against Guyana Heat and Lehigh CC before the playoffs start and both of these games are important to the Yard Boys as wins in these games will see them top the division going into the playoffs with home field advantage.

This time of the season gets very competitive with teams vying for playoff positions and managers looking and trying to work out who they will meet in the playoffs. At the end of the day, it does not matter who you meet in the knockout stage as all 4 teams who have made it there are usually all capable of winning a championship.

Hustlers v Wildfire CC Match Abandoned

Hustlers missed out in their latest league fixture against Wildfire CC after continuous rain abandoned play after 13th overs were bowled.

Wildfire had batted first and were at 63 for 5 at the break when the heavens opened up and made play impossible for the remaining of the game.

3 points shared was the final outcome. Hustlers final 2 games are against Guyana Heat and Lehigh CC and if they win both of those games, they will finish the season top of the table as number 1 seed and home field advantage.

The Hustler players still stayed back in the rain and celebrated Cliff's birthday celebration with a nice cake and some very cold liquids.
We would like to wish Cliff the very best on his special day.

Hustlers next game v Wildfire CC

Hustlers (6-1) meet Wildfire (3-5) this coming sunday at Lauderhill Middle School in their next round of league action.

The Wildfire team have impressed the teams they have played against this season with some outstanding results considering this being their first season as a team in the Division. To add some extra feeling to this regular season game, some ex Hustler players are now playing for the Wildfire team to make things more interesting.

No team is an easy game in the division and Hustlers will need to be at their best to beat this new side.

Hustlers v Lehigh Indians Match Report

Basil, Terry, Cliff, Retesh, John, & Mike riding in style.
The Hustler team met the undefeated Lehigh Indians CC last sunday in a clash of the in form teams from the Division. Not quite a must win game for both sides but it was definitely the biggest game of  round 8 where 6 points were on offer for the winners.

The day started off with team manager Derek picking up the hired 15 seater and meeting with the team players at 9 30am sharp at the Hibiscus parking lot. Surprisingly, everybody was on time for a change as the 15 seater was loaded up with various drinks, bats, bandages, walking aids, snacks, and players as they set off to Lehigh on time.

After one stop on route to Lehigh to load up more liquid refreshments, the team arrived early at Veterans Park at a new pitch that looked in immaculate condition except for the watered down batting strip. The toss was key and Lehigh inserted Hustlers in to bat first on the well doctored, watered down, jacuzzi of a pitch.

The sun was beating down with temperatures reaching the high 80's as the pitch became more playable as the game went on which made scoring quickly a bit easier.
John batted well throughout the innings and scored a ground breaking all run 51 since his return back to the Hustlers uniform before he retired out to take a well earned rest before the innings closed. Other contributions from Ravi, Mike, Basil , Mukesh, Sanjeev saw the Hustler total reach 157 for 5 after 25 overs.
Johnno 51 not out
Lehigh started off their run chase well before allrounder Mr Classic broke the opening partnership with his very own version of the Carrom ball. He calls it his Carrot ball (dangling the bait out there), giving the batsman a six ball to hit before deceiving the batsman by bowling him.

At the break Lehigh were not looking good with 6 wickets gone and only 53 on the board. Terry 3 wickets, Retesh 2 wickets, Ravi 3 wickets, Mukesh 1 wicket, and Sanjeev 1 wicket all bowled well as the Lehigh innings came to an end with their score at 94 all out.

The big game failed to reach up to all the pre match hype as Lehigh took a sound beating at their home field by a very impressive Hustler squad led by Basil. The after match congratulations were appreciated by the Hustler team from the much improving Lehigh team players as they all headed off to down a few extra cold ones hosted at Tyrone's house as the evening drew in.

With Mohan driving and last orders called, the Hustler players then set off on the homeward bound journey back to Ft Lauderdale downing a few more on the way as well as the customary pit stop to drain the oil.

Lastly, Cliff was serenaded by his fellow team mates on the bus as they sang happy birthday to him before they reached home to round up a great day out for everybody involved.

Happy birthday to Cliff
Next sunday's game is against Wildfire CC at Lauderhill Middle School (The Yard).
