Yaadboyz beat Guyana Heat by 5 wickets Rd 1

The Fall 2016 season started with Yaadboyz CC meeting the much under rated Guyana Heat team in Round 1 of the SFSCL.

Not only had the Yaadboyz strengthened up their roster pre season but the Heat also picked up a few dangerous players of their own in the off season too.
The game started with the Yaadboyz winning the toss and asking the Heat to bat first in sweltering conditions with temperatures reaching high BBQ levels.

Immediately the Heat father and son opening duo of Denny and Devanand feasted on some ordinary bowling upfront as they got off to a flying start. With runs being scored freely the Yaadboyz players sensed early on that a big run chase would be required batting second. At the break the Guyana  Heat score totalled an impressive 132 for 1wicket lost.

Mukesh and Terry bowled pulled the game back for the Yaadboyz in the second half of the innings as they combined to take 6 wickets between them and only giving away 51 runs in their 10 overs in total. The rest of the 15 overs by the other bowlers went for 180 runs plus.

The total posted by Guyana Heat was 236 all out in 25 overs.

Plenty of wood dished out by both teams on sunday with 476 runs scored in 49 overs.

The Yaadboyz started off the run chase with 21 in the first 2 overs before Rocky (12) was bowled just before the heavens opened up and a torrential downpour ensued. With everybody running for shelter and lightning striking to all corners of the playing field the game looked in favour of a Heat win.
A break of around 30 minutes was allowed for the rain to subside a little  agreed by both team captains but the Guyana Heat players were very eager to carry on playing being that chasing down a score of 236 in wet conditions was not going to be an easy feat for the Yaadboyz batsmen.

Things took a drastic change as Ricky took a liking to all the Heat bowlers. Sixes rained down all over the yard as he raced to 91 runs by the 13th over break with the Yaadboyz total at a destructive 144 for 1.

The Heat players didn't know what had just happened with all the carnage going on but for them to win the game now they had to play out the full 25 overs to constitute a win and hope the Yaadboyz batsmen fell short. Shortly after the resumption of the break Rocky completed his magnificent century with another long 6 deep over the mid wicket boundary. He was eventually out for a rapid 114.

John (24), Mukesh (0), and Basil (6), fell quickly in the middle overs but with Ravi (31no) at one end joined by the Brit (17no) at the other, the target was reached at the end of the 23rd over for the loss of 5 wickets even though a couple of attempted fails at some desperate "MANKADs" were thrown in at the end of the innings by a Guyana Heat bowler to break up the partnership. (SPIRIT OF THE GAME = FAIL FOR TWO ATTEMPTED MANKAD'S BY GUYANA HEAT).

To witness an innings that contained power, skill, and great shot selection at the Yard in conditions not favouring batting, Ricky showed everybody batmanship at it's very best and hopefully we all look forward to more innings in the same vane from him before the season is over.

Next week the Yaadboyz play the Florida Lightning at The Yard in Round 2.
