Gilchrist to join Caribbean Premier League.....

Adam Gilchrist, the former Australian wicketkeeper, has become the second international franchise player, after Ricky Ponting, to sign with the newly formed Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The CPL is scheduled to begin on July 29, and conclude on August 26. The tournament involves six franchise countries across the Caribbean: Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia and Trinidad & Tobago. The teams will all have one local and one international icon or 'franchise player' each. Gilchrist and Ponting have not yet been assigned teams.

Gilchrist, who retired in 2008 after the Australia-India series, said he was excited about playing in the League. "The CPL will feature some of the world's best cricketers, and I can't wait to test my skills and play in what is going to be a dynamic and exciting competition," he said. "I have fond memories of playing cricket in the Caribbean. Plus, I love playing the Twenty20 format, and there is absolutely no better place anywhere to do this than the West Indies."

Since his retirement, Gilchrist, like many former internationals, has been involved in the IPL. He led Deccan Chargers to victory in 2009 and has been with Kings XI Punjab, as captain, since 2011.

Message from the League

Members,

Invasion of the cricket field during any league game by players is a very serious offense and all cases reported to the league will be reffered to the  DC.  Players who are found guilty will be suspended for game/games. Any subsequent infractions of similar nature will result in much more severe penalties.
Email contacts are responsible for disseminating this info to their members!

(SFSCL)

What a sad state of affairs our league is becoming. E mails like this send out a bad impression to all the outsiders looking at how our league is run and the stupid behaviour from some our players in South Florida on gamedays.

Too many big time super stars around our leagues who think that they can do whatever they please as they are untouchable to rules and regulations in the SFSCL is the problem.

This will never change unless players are made accountable for their street gang mentality when they don't get their way on the field of play. No discipline, no morals, and no ethics.......all for the sake of a Championship trophy.

Hustlers beaten at Warriors

Hustlers lost their last league fixture in a very good run chase by the Warrior CC batsmen led by their skipper Jay who hit another undefeated century for the season.

Hustlers won the toss and elected to bat on another hot humid day. Chris and Deo got off to a solid but slow start as they went to the break at 58 for 0 wickets.

After the break they both started scoring quickly before new opener for the day, Deo was out for 46. Ravi came in next and immediately started scoring at a good rate. Chris was out for a good 75 followed shortly by Ravi for 41. Some late order hitting by Basil saw the Hustler score an impressive 209 in their 25 overs.

Hustlers then went into the field and with the wind affecting the bowlers direction, they gave away too many boundary balls early on. At the break Warriors were at 92 for 2. The remaining overs saw the Warrior batsmen scoring quickly and reached their target in the 23rd over without any alarms.

So Hustlers now find themselves sliding down the league table with 2 losses in a row after such a good start and after the Easter break they will have to regroup and pick up their season once again if they want to compete for a playoff position.

Hustlers 2 v Warriors next game Round 6

Hustlers 2 meet Warriors CC in their next league game at 199 street.

After last weeks big loss to Berbice, the Hustler squad will need to get back on track and show they still have some top performances left in them before the regular season ends.

Good news of the week is Ravi has now admitted that his shoulder is not as bad as it was but his ankle is still bruk up. By the looks of it we need to ask him if the rest of his body is fit as well.......

Hustlers captain Chris has also taken up a new hobby this week. He has decided to give up meat and all forms of alcohol indefinitely. No more drinking for the British as he finally realises that waking up on monday mornings with a cat 9 hangover is not a good feeling even though it has taken him since 2007 to admit that. Good luck skipper. We will see if that change is permanent !!!!

Everybody is more than welcome to come out and support the Hustler team once again as they head out to Miami Gardens this weekend.

The management would also like the players to be on their best behaviour saturday night and all be in bed before 11pm. No more late nights wondering where you are and how did you reach home please.
Thanks.

Hustlers fall way short against Berbice CC

Hustlers 2 met Berbice CC in round 5 of the SFSCL and took a real good old fashioned beating by one of the top sides in the Divsion.

Having put Berbice into bat first, the Hustler bowlers bowled well to start with but every over they served up a bad ball that was always punished by the Berbice batsmen.

Amar, Mohan, Sookraj, Ameer, Ravi and Terry all bowled well in most parts but couldn;t stop the aggresive Berbice batsmen as they posted a score of 238 in their 25 overs faced. Mikey took 2 very good catches in the field was the only highlight for Hustlers.

The run chase started and then Hustlers lost Chris early shortly followed by Basil, Ravi and Cliff but still went into the break at 82 for 4. After the break Mohan was out after hitting some lusty blows but the rest of the lower order batsmen didn't last too long as their innings finished with only 128 having faced just 18 overs.

The Berbice bowlers all bowled well and used their pitch the best as they went away with the 6 points and the win.

After a brief team meet after the game, the Hustlers  players all had their say as they all knew they were totally outplayed in a game that promised a lot before it had started. The Hustler think tank will need to go and do a lot of soul searching and find the reason why they played so badly in a game they should have at least competed in. Many mistakes were made during the game and their performance will need to increase by 100% next week otherwise the remainder of the season will see more heartache for them all in which could turn out to be a very long season for them.

Next week Hustlers 2 are again at 199 against Warriors CC.

Gibson happy with West Indies' 'settled' batting

West Indies coach Ottis Gibson is pleased to have the team's batting strengthened by the return of Marlon Samuels and Chris Gayle, as they bid to extend their winning run in Test cricket. West Indies will take on Zimbabwe in the first of two Tests in Barbados from Tuesday, and if they win the match they would have won five Tests in a row for the first time since 1988-89.

"Having Marlon back is great news for us. The injury was unfortunate, but he has been a big player for us in the last 12 months or so, the main batsman in all formats," Gibson said. "Chris is a quality player, we have no doubt he will perform for us. He has done it many times before and we know he will be confident going into this series."

Talking about the make-up of the squad, Gibson pointed out that since the batting line-up is a "settled" one, there is no place for veteran batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan at the moment despite the form he showed in the second ODI against Zimbabwe. He is being given time to prove - through his domestic form - that he deserves a spot in the Test line-up, Gibson said. "If you look at the batting at the moment, the line up seems to be settled. We played five batsmen in Bangladesh and made a lot of runs. It's hard to fit him in but at the same time we know his quality.

"At the moment, for him, it's just about getting back and getting confident, and once he gets used to getting runs again in regional cricket … I would like to think that once there is a spot available, he would find himself in that spot".

Sarwan made a comeback for West Indies in February, on the limited-overs tour of Australia, after 18 months away due to issues with the team management.

Hustlers 2 next game v Berbice CC

Date 3/17/13

Time 12 30pm Start

Against Berbice CC

At
Brentwood Park199 St / 32 Ave, Miami Gardens, FL

Hustlers 2 meet Berbice CC this coming sunday in Round 5 of the SFSCL.

This game is a crucial one for both sides as Hustlers look to carry on from their strong start to the season and Berbice will be looking for a win of their own to put them back towards the top of the Division.

The game sees Hustler captain Chris facing his old team for the first time since he joined Hustlers where he enjoyed 4 final appearances in 6 seasons with the Berbice squad and 2 Championship wins.

Key match ups will be the strong batting lineup of Hustlers going up against the strong bowling lineup of the Berbice team.

This game has the potential to be an exciting game between two evenly matched teams.

Florida Cup News 2013

Allstars Competition Final
East Coast beat NYSCL

Masters Competiton Final
FSCA beat Betterhope

The Florida Cup completed after 3 days of top class cricket with 2 new Champions in both competitions.

The SFSCL Allstars were knocked out in the semi final when they came up against NYSCL while the SFSCL Masters team got eliminated in the group stages as both teams came short and were not able to defend their Championships.

The surprising team of the whole tournament was found in the Masters Competition  led by Hustler 2 player Amar, as the SCI team reached the semi final with good wins in the group stages against Georgia and Orlando.

The team made up for their lack of skills with good team unity and playing to their max with good individual performances coming from Mack, Anthony, Ramesh, Amar, Ram throughout the tournament.

After shocking Orlando in their last group game and chasing down 180 to win they knocked out the SFSCL Masters team for a semi final position where they were then outplayed by a very strong Betterhope team.

The SFI squad all enjoyed the 3 day tournament and went home happy knowing they did their best to reach the semi finals. All the players overcame the underdog tag they were given and looked forward to a good rest to ease all the aches and pains they accrued over the 3 days through 4 games they had to play with a depleted squad number.

Next week sunday it is back to league action as Hustlers 2 take on Berbice CC at 199th street.

Hustlers 2 tie with Viking Canecutters CC.....Round 4

Hustlers 2 pulled off a tied game against Vikings CC when it would have been easier to win the game outright in their last league fixture.

Having being set 161 for victory when Vilings batted first, the Hustler squad went into the break sitting on 82 for 2. Cliff 34 and Chris 18 were the two batsmen out.

After the break the Hustler batsmen went about the relatively easy run chase in a stroll as they neared the 161 target for victory.

With only 5 runs needed off the final over, the Hustler batters made a mess of it with still 4 batsmen ready to bat. 1 run was required of the last 2 delieveries but somehow failed to connect for the winning run.

Even though the game was tied and 3 points shared by both teams, it was really a 3 point loss for the Hustler team.

Top performances came from Terry with the ball as he grabbed 5 wickets for 21 runs and Ravi making 65 with the bat in his usual CLASSIC style (which we were reminded of his classicness by Amar every 2 minutes of his innings).

Next week there is no league game as the Florida Cup is once again upon us. We would like to wish Basil, Cliff, Amar and Chris all the best in their teams in the Masters Competition.

We would like to thank the Vikings team for their great hospitality in providing food at the game and for giving us a great close game. Also, thanks are in order to Devya for scoring the book and Joanie who came to support us on a cold windy day in Tamarac.
