Hustlers 2 tie with Viking Canecutters CC.....Round 4

Hustlers 2 pulled off a tied game against Vikings CC when it would have been easier to win the game outright in their last league fixture.

Having being set 161 for victory when Vilings batted first, the Hustler squad went into the break sitting on 82 for 2. Cliff 34 and Chris 18 were the two batsmen out.

After the break the Hustler batsmen went about the relatively easy run chase in a stroll as they neared the 161 target for victory.

With only 5 runs needed off the final over, the Hustler batters made a mess of it with still 4 batsmen ready to bat. 1 run was required of the last 2 delieveries but somehow failed to connect for the winning run.

Even though the game was tied and 3 points shared by both teams, it was really a 3 point loss for the Hustler team.

Top performances came from Terry with the ball as he grabbed 5 wickets for 21 runs and Ravi making 65 with the bat in his usual CLASSIC style (which we were reminded of his classicness by Amar every 2 minutes of his innings).

Next week there is no league game as the Florida Cup is once again upon us. We would like to wish Basil, Cliff, Amar and Chris all the best in their teams in the Masters Competition.

We would like to thank the Vikings team for their great hospitality in providing food at the game and for giving us a great close game. Also, thanks are in order to Devya for scoring the book and Joanie who came to support us on a cold windy day in Tamarac.

  1. 12 dropped catches by Hustlers when they fielded is not going to win you games. You guys would struggle to catch a cold.......

  3. Can't agree with you more. However, what if half of those catches were taken? You guys are better off playing rounders or work for Air Traffic Control...

PS. Some of the players already had cold.

  4. Hustlers team rely too much on their batting to win game. If english fail only other batter to worry about is Ramdeo. Nothing else to worry about.

  7. Chris was always a good player overhere in the UK. It's show you that as he is getting older he still has some life playing cricket wherever he goes. I remember one game we played over 10 years ago when we had to chase down 320 in a 40 over game and he told his team we will get this score if we bat together and play with our heads with controlled hitting. End result we won by 8 wickets with 2 overs to spare.....Chris 189 not out Harsh 102 not out. Brilliant day for us and will always remember him as one of our best leaders and best friend I had when we played together.

    1. Harshy....I remember that game well. That was some win for us. Thanks for the compliments. It was always a pleasure playing with all our squad. We had Indians, Australians, Guyanese, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans, and English in our team. We all came from different backgrounds and spoke different first languages but we all came together as one when we played league cricket. Good times and great memories.

    2. Yes very good times. We became Champions of the league, won the 20/20 cup and also the Village Competition all under your captaincy the last season before you left for the States. You went out as a winner and we will always remember how you trusted us youngsters and encouraged us not to change the way we played. Always attack first but when it's time to defend, defend like you value your wicket. Good advice Chris and I still rememebr those words everytime I play now.

  8. We won everything that last season simply because we all played together and everyone in the 11 had a job to do. Captaining the team was easy especially when we had match winners in all positions. We were strong in all departments and nobody was afraid of my tongue lashing I would give them if I saw them underperforming and not giving 110%. Respect was shown to me by everybody being the leader and I always gave them back the same respect. That's why we were a tough side to beat that year.

  9. Hello Chris. Nice blog. You were a good skipper to play under. I came into your side as a leg spinner come lower order batsman and you took time and effort to give my batting some extra practice in the nets. I then became a reasonable batsman and you showed faith in me with promoting me up the order one game where I scored 68. Do you remember that? It's nice to see you are still playing in America. Good luck mate.

    2. No I don't get much time thesedays with family responsibilties taking priority. We used to be a good side all them years ago. I still have fond memories when we would travel down to the countryside and beat all the English boys at their home grounds. They were indeed very good times in my life. My leg spinning really confused the English batsmen. They never see the ball turning that much at speed.
