Hustlers beat Raiders CC in Round 10

After a 2 weekend break from league action due to walkovers, Hustlers met Raiders CC in Round 10 of the SFSCL.

With a lack of competitive cricket for the Hustlers team, they all knew that game rustiness could be a major factor against the Raiders team.

Raiders won the toss and decided to bat first on their home wicket. Amar and Terry started off the innings well by bowling tight lines early on with Terry being the successful one as he bowled out his 5 overs for 18 runs and grabbed 4 good wickets.

Raiders went to the break at 47 for 5. Ravi caught 3 decent outfield catches to assist the bowlers as the Raiders batsmen struggled to score at a good rate. They accelerated in the second 12 overs and finished on 120 for 9 in their 25 overs.

Captain Basil with Terry 4 for 18
Cliff was first out in the Hustler run chase and was followed quickly by Ravi, Mukesh, and Basil.
Chris and Keshore brought their team back into the game with a solid partnership before Keshore was out for a fine 32.

With only 11 needed to win from 4 overs, Chris was bowled for 52. A mini collapse ensued to make the tension on the sideline rise as the Hustler middle order folded up.

It came down to 4 runs off the last 12 before numbers 10 and 11 batsmen Mike and Retesh scrambled home the winning run with 1 ball to spare.

It was a tight finish for the Hustler team but in the end, they got home by the skin of their teeth to take the win and 6 points on offer.

Next week they play their last regular season game against Diamond CC at the Yard.

Highlights

Terry 4 for 18
Chris 52
Keshore 32

  1. The batting looked weak for Hustlers even though you won. It's about time others stepped up and start scoring runs instead of throwing their wicket away.

    1. Chasing low scores can sometimes be the hardest thing to do. We came up against a good bowling attack bowling low and flat on their grass wicket. Our batsmen didn't get bowled out by unplayable deliveries, they got themselves out trying to force shots. PATIENCE PATIENCE PATIENCE and APPLICATION is what was missing and why we struggled to reach the 120 to win.

  2. Looks like English carrying all the load with his bat this season. If he get out early then Hustlers will struggle in the playoffs. I can't see them winning the championship if he fails.

  3. Look at his scores this season....78,4,7,107,66*,101*,79 and 52. Take all that out and what is left? I think Hustlers need another consistent batter to win the league

    3. THE VP HASN'T SCORED ANYTHING SO FAR IN DIV 1. THE BRIT WOULD STRUGGLE AS WELL. THEY BOTH GOOD DIV 2 BATSMAN BUT NOT DIV1

    4. English would do good. He prefers faster bowling and would score in Div 1.His game is setup for good bowlers as he has very good technique and skills.

  4. Mr Slipman. Thanks for the props but this is the only game our team struggled to bat with any assurance. All season we have batted well as a unit. The game against Raiders was after a 2 week break and our team lacked match practice hence the bad batting performance.I am happy with my own form right now but to say it is all down to me is doing the rest of my team injustice because they have produced all through the season. I am also glad we got our worst performance out of the way before the playoffs starts.

  5. English you wil make a good politician. Always saying the right thing and backing your team. Hats of to you but don't you think your team needs another top batter to be more consistent?

    1. We have plenty of experience in our batting lineup and on any given day the likes of Cliff, Ravi, Basil, Deo, Mukesh, King can all be destructive batsmen in their own right and win games for us. I am not concerned about our batsmen. I have full faith in all their abilities. Some days it will not look like that but other days they all look like a million dollars with a bat in their hand.
