Hustlers beat Miami Royals in Round 2

Hustlers beat Miami Royals by 26 runs in round 2 yesterday to get their first win of the Fall season.

Derek, Mo, Jai, & John.
Having won the toss, Hustlers decided to bat first and lost Chris, John, and Mike early on before a solid partnership firstly, between Ravi and Keshore followed by another excellent partnership between (Mr Classic) Ravi and skipper Basil saw the Hustler post a score of 170 for 8 in their 25 overs faced. It was another fine batting masterclass from the Classic Batsman's bat as well as some solid looking shots from our skipper. They both batted like true stalwarts of the game with some clean hitting, some crazy running, and plenty of water breaks to keep them going..

Ravi 52 and Basil 51 not out were the chief run scorers for Hustlers. Keshore did his usual middle order performance, looking fantastic in some shots he played as well as looking like a butcher with some full air shot swings of his blade also.

Basil, Keshore, & Cliff
Miami knew they would have to get off to a fast start early on and were helped by some wayward bowling by the Hustler bowlers. Retesh was top of the tree with his bowling exploits. Every week this young guy learns his trade with patience, and great listening skills from the experienced old timers. He has come on leaps and bounds with the Hustler team and every week he just keeps getting better as a cricketer. Other youngsters around the league should bide their time, just like Retesh did at Hustlers, and show their team mates what they are capable of doing on the pitch, rather than talking a brilliant game off it and all their great cricketing stories when in reality they have a long way to go about even being recognised as a cricket around the league.

Amar came back at the end and redeemed himself with 2 miserly overs and was backed up by the one legged Mohan who bowled an immaculate 5th over and Terry. With 30 needed off the last over for victory, Ravi (one leg replacement needed as well), did his best to stifle the boundaries and gave away 3 runs to see Hustlers win by 27 runs.

The Hustler sqaud enjoyed the after match liquid refreshments well past the game end and all headed off homeward bound after a very long day at the Yard. We would like to wish Sunil and his Miami team all the best for the rest of the season as they once again proved that they are a tough test for us whenever we play against each other. They also play in the right manner on the field with dignity and great sportmanship.

It was a much needed win for Hustlers who now are off and running on the points board with 6.

Next week they face Breakaway CC at 21st street.

Hustlers lose opening game

Hustlers 2 managed to put in a bad low key performance against Vikings CC in round 1 of the SFSCL and were well and truly beaten by the better side on the day.

Hustlers won the toss and put Vikings into bat first but were soon regretting their decision as Vikings scored all too quickly early on by some wayward bowling by the Hustler bowling attack.

Inquest time
At the break Vikings were at 74 after 13 overs.

The second half of the innings see a better bowling effort to restrict Vikings to 154 for 9.

The Hustler innings started off badly with Chris and Ravi out early followed by John, Mike and Basil. A flurry of middle order wickets saw Hustlers struggle to come to terms with the energetic Vikings side as they outbatted, outfielded, and eventually outbowled the Hustler team and were deserving of their victory.

Hustlers were all out in the 18th over for 94 in what turned out to be their worst batting performance for some 3 seasons.

The autopsy conducted after the game was made and generally it was all agreed that the batsmen all failed and took the blame for showing no application or fighting qualities needed in a run chase.

Next week we hope for a better improvement on our flat performance against Miami Royals in round 2 at the Yard once again.

Fall Season begins this Sunday 9/22

The SFSCL Division 2 season starts this sunday with Hustlers playing Vikings CC at the Yard.

Ravi's bulging wallet ready to pay.
The game will start at 12 30pm weather permitting and all players are to be reminded to get there early.
The management would like players not to forget their wallets as players team registration is due to cover the costs of insurance, league fees, and offset last season's expenses.

This season will prove to be more tough than last season for Hustlers as 4 teams have come down from Div 1 but as long as we do the same thing as last season, we will show all the sides we face that we will be no easy team to play against.

See you all at the Yard this coming sunday guys.

The Definition of Cricket as Explained to an American

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.
Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out.
When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out.
Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out.
When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game.

Now all the explanations are crystal clear to anybody who asks from this point on.

Congrats Miss America

The Miss America pageant has crowned its first winner from an Indian background – an aspiring doctor who plans to use the $50,000  prize money to fund her studies.

"I'm so happy this organisation has embraced diversity," 24-year-old Nina Davuluri said in her first press conference, moments after winning the crown in Atlantic City. "I'm thankful there are children watching at home who can finally relate to a new Miss America."

Fall Season Starts 22nd Sept

The SFSCL has come up with a new format where they have now split the teams into 3 Divsions.
The Premier League will have 8 teams, Div One 8 teams, and Div Two 7 teams.

Premier League
Superkings
Hurricanes
Outlaws
President
United 1
Hustlers
Diamond
D Diamond

Division One
Hustlers 2
Breakaway
Warriors
Five Star
Miami Royals
Vikings
Raiders
Berbice

Division Two
Renegades
Takers
Lehigh Indians
Lehigh CC
Hollywood
Starlite
Guyana Heat

This may prove to be a masterstroke by the SFSCL admins and may encourage more teams to join the league in the future. Having 3 divisions now, will see more evenly matched games throughout the season and with 3 finals at the end of the season, this will give the chance for the weaker sides a chance to become champions of their division rather than becoming the whipping boys week in week out.

The new season kicks off this coming sunday.

Hustlers lose in Semi Final

The Hustler team lost their semi final game against Diamond CC in a thriller of a game last sunday.

The day started off with a torrential downpour leaving the teams and spectators running for cover for a good hour leaving lakes of water all over the outfield in an unplayable condition. Once the rain had stopped there was another 40 minutes delay to allow the outfield to dry as best as it could before the umpires told the captains the toss and game would go ahead at 2pm.

Just as well the rain we had wasn't as bad as this but it got close.
The game finally started and with more rain interuptions during the Hustler innings throughout, the Hustler faced their alloted 25 overs scoring a healthy 180 for 9. Good contributions coming from King, Ravi and Basil.

Another rain interval was then followed by more rain as the Diamond innings staggered to get going but with all the breaks and rain, they were still up with the required run rate needed.

It all boiled down to needing 5 off the last over with only 1 wicket left. Diamond's 10 and 11 batsmen scored the winning runs with a ball to spare to see them reach the finals in a fantastic game that swung both ways for both of the teams to keep the fans on the edge of their seats right to the end.

Even though Hustlers lost the game, it was a great spectacle for all the supporters who came to watch and was a very enjoyable game to play in for all concerned. We would like to wish both D Diamond and Diamond CC's all the best in next weeks final.

The Hustlers team can still stand tall and not be ashamed to lose as they proved that on any given day they can be a match for any team and can take positives from this season especially with the emergence of Retesh with both his bowling and fielding. Ravi (20 wkts & 296 runs), became the seasons Top Allrounder and Chris became the Top batsman (5 fiftys and two 100's), in Division 2. Five wicket hauls came from Amar, Terry and Ravi (twice, including a hat trick), during the season and fifty plus scores from Cliff, Deo, and Basil. It really was an outstanding season for the Hustler squad who all played well throughout the season. Keshore had his moments both on the field as well as off it, Mikey fielded like a champion, Mohan bowled his heart out all season, King was superb in his limited performances, Mukesh batted with great power with some enormous blows, Derek did a great job as assistant manager while Jai was away, Devya was immaculate with her scoring, and Sati was fantastic with her support and food preparation as always. Even watching Dilan running around all season with a bat in his hand on the sidelines getting some practice in was fun to watch.

We at Hustlers would like to thank all our sponsors for the generous help you gave us this season and we appreciate that from the bottom of our heart, and most importantly, our fans who came and gave us great support week in week out all through the entire season.

Hopefully, when the new season starts we will go one step further for you.

Thanks also go out to the SFSCL for allowing us to complete in the Division.

See you all next season when once again we step out onto the cricket field looking to play hard, play fair, and make more new friends on our travels around South Florida.

The fat lady maybe singing for us right now but just remember ladies and gentlemen, " Elastic is still only two dollars a yard to put your panty's back in order"..........that really was the best joke we had all season and I still can't help but smile when I hear that. The dogs hopefully will also not be barking too much next season as well when we bowl.

Be safe and be happy everybody until next time we all meet.

Twenty20 New World Record

Aaron Finch made a century from just 47 balls and finished on a world-record 156 in Australia's T20 victory against England.
It's about time the Aussies had something to cheer about after getting a good old fashioned  beating all summer in the Ashes Series against England. Hats off to Aaron Finch for his explosive 20/20 knock.

Next Game....SEMI FINAL v DIAMOND CC

Sunday September 1st

Lauderhill Middle School

12 30pm start

Semi finals days is fast approaching for Hustlers 2, Breakaway, D Diamond and Diamond CC's.
The Div 2 regular season has come to a finish with 11 rounds of games being played which saw some exciting games involving Hustlers.

Having lost only once this season, the Hustler team know that this time of the season is when the game tempo steps right up and a loss will mean the end of the season for the losing side. Diamond CC will be no pushover, as we saw last sunday in our regular season game, but what we saw was two good teams playing to their best ability and being competitive and the game going down to the final few overs before a result was decided. This game may prove to be an exciting one for all the fans as well.

Good luck to all 4 teams involved this sunday in the semi finals and may the best two teams move on up to the Final.

Hustlers crack the Diamonds in Round 11

In the last regular game of the Division 2 season, Hustlers played Diamond CC at The Yard knowing a win would secure the number one position going into the semi finals with homefield advantage.

They all knew that this game would be no walkover in the park from the ex Div 1 side and as it transpired the crowd were witness to a great game of league cricket.

Team discussing tactics and when the next drink is coming.
Diamond CC claimed the toss after the late start due to the rain and late pitch preparations (we are not even going to go there on that one as that is a whole different story), and inserted Hustlers into bat first. Chris and Cliff opened the innings and after a blistering start Cliff was first out. The scoreboard ratttled allong at over 10 an over with Chris continuing his impressive season form with sixes galore all around the park He was next out with the score on 93 after 9 overs with his contribution being a rapid 62.Ravi and Deo took their team to the break with the score reading 127 for 2.

After the resumption the Diamond bowlers bowled tighter and made life tough for Ravi and Deo who could only score at around 4 an over. Ravi reached a much anticipated 68 before he was out bowled complaining of lack of energy, side strain, headaches, and general lack of fitness. Deo was not out at the end with a fine 40 score and also came back crying about how unfit he was (bro you don't have to tell us that, we already knew and that is no secret...), as the Hustler innings closed at 207 for 3.

Ravi 68 & Terry 2 for 43

Chris 62
Diamond got off to a fast start but for some top bowling from Amar (Singh is King), saw their innings stutter. They lost a few batsmen before the 13th over but were still in at a good position with their score at 113.

The next 12 overs saw they game go one way then back another way as both sides played tough league cricket. Terry, Mohan, Ravi, and Retesh bowled magnificently in the second half but Diamond were still up with the run rate until the end where they needed 24 off the last over bowled by Terry. A six went off the first ball but then Terry ran out one of the Diamond batsman off the second. Singles were then taken off the remaining delieveries to see Hustler win the game by 14 runs.

Deo 40 not out
This was a very close game with both teams fighting until the end. If this game matches the semi final next week then we are all in for a brilliant game of cricket again.

The Hustler squad all celebrated the win well past the end of the game with Diamond manager Lloyd who got a little concerned when he saw the 4th round of drinks appear from the local cornerstore.

Thanks to all the supporters who came to watch our superb win and we hope you comeback next week for the next episode.

Next game is next sunday.

Division 2 Champions ?

The Teams in contention are:

Hustlers 2
Diamond
Breakaway
D Diamond

These 4 teams have already secured their playoff position in the race to become Summer Division 2 Champions.

Who out of the 4 teams will win?

Could it be a Hustlers or Breakaway victory with both sides losing only once this season. Diamond will be looking to go back into Division 1 after being relegated last season or will it be  D Diamond's turn who have never won a Championship?

Which team looks the better bet for the win?

Dilshan to join Guyana Amazon Warriors

Tillakaratne Dilshan has become the fifth Sri Lanka player to sign up with the inaugural Caribbean Premier League. He will join Guyana Amazon Warriors as a replacement for the injured New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill, who broke a bone in his right hand in the match against Antigua Hawksbills on August 17.

Tillakaratne Dilshan is expected to reach the Caribbean in time for Guyana's semi-final against T&T
Dilshan will join his Sri Lanka team-mate Lasith Malinga, who is also with Guyana. The other Sri Lanka players in the CPL are Muttiah Muralitharan and Kumar Sangakkara (Jamaica Tallawahs) and Mahela Jayawardene (Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel).

Guyana coach Roger Harper said: "While it is sad to lose a player of Martin Guptill's ability at this stage of the tournament, we are delighted to have secured a top-quality replacement in Tillakaratne Dilshan.
"He offers so much to any side he plays for, as an attacking batsman, a useful bowler and also someone who is outstanding in the field. We look forward to him linking up with us ahead of Thursday's semi-final and his big-match experience will be a great asset to us."

Division 2 Standings after Round 10

All four teams are already set for the playoffs with the final positions being decided this coming weekend. If Hustlers lose to Diamond this sunday, they will find themselves in 3rd position and would have to play D Diamond in West Palm Beach but that is only if both D Diamond and Breakaway win their respective last games as well.

A win for Hustlers will mean they top the group with homefield advantage.
