West Indies Interesting Stats

1-47 West Indies' win-loss record in overseas Tests, excluding matches in Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, since November 2000. Their only win during this period has come against South Africa, in Port Elizabeth in 2007. However, they've also lost seven out of 10 Tests there. In Australia they've lost 10 out of 11, and in England 11 out of 13.

60.56 West Indies' bowling average in the series; their batting average was 24.48. The difference between the two - of 36.08 - is their worst in a series in South Africa. The previous poorest was 32.37 (batting average 34.94, bowling average 67.31) in the 2003-04 series.

18.20 Shivnarine Chanderpaul's average in the series (91 runs in five innings), his poorest since the tour to New Zealand in 2006, when he scored 74 runs in five innings at an average of 14.80.

Can it get any worse ?

2015 Spring Season Changes

These are the changes that teams can expect in the 2015 Spring Season;

1.Each inning will be 30 overs instead of 25 overs
2.There will be 8 overs power play at the beginning of each inning.
3.The start time for all games will be 12 Noon.
4.Mandatory ball change at 15 overs.
5.Team will have 2 hours 30 minutes to bowl the 30 overs this include the 5 minutes break.
6.Each bowler will be allowed a maximum of 6 overs.
7.Water Break 5 minutes at the end of the 15th over.
8.Teams who do not complete their allotted overs can be penalized.

Any change in the SFSCL will have it's supporters for and supporters against. I personally think this is a good idea.

However, I would suggest the league hold off from implementing this change during the Spring season simply because the Florida Cup is played under 25 and 20 over innings for the All Star comp and Masters respectively, unless the Florida Cup matches plan on being the same allocated overs this time around.

2014 Year Review

Sal and the rest of the governing body all did a fine job over the last 12 months culminating in different Champions in both divisions. People should not forget that everything they do will not always be perfect but they do everything voluntarily as their commitment to the league far outweighs all the other issues people seem to throw at them. It is not an easy position to fill but I applaud all of them for the time and effort they donate to the league and it's affairs. Hopefully, if they carry on, they try and improve on all the good work they have started or at least leave the league in a stronger position from when they took over. Either way, they deserve recognition from all of us for their time dedicated to softball cricket in Florida. Thanks guys.

The Hustlers 2 team endured a tough year with players arriving and also players leaving. Promises of players joining not materializing as anticipated but we still managed to end up in the Spring Div 2 Final where we lost to the Warriors team that was packed with Div 1 calibre players just for that one off season.

Division 1 was an experience for most as availability was very poor throughout but we still managed to see out the Summer season as a team but finished 2nd from bottom in the table with only 2 wins, one being a forfeiture win. The league needs to look at how many teams should get promoted and relegated for the future and betterment of the league in my opinion. The Champions should automatically go up as the only team.

The third and final season saw us once again struggle to raise an 11 every week but we still reached the Div 2 semi final where we were beaten by the eventual Champions Lehigh  CC. Our whole playing squad comprised of only 14 players  for all the season of which 2 of them never qualified for the playoffs. It was indeed a tough season for us all.

The third season saw the introduction of the power play 30 yard zone for the first time in the SFSCL and after much deliberation about whether it would work or not, we all accepted it as a great success. Batsmen were throwing wood like there is no tomorrow in the first 6 overs where possible and bowlers began to use their heads trying to bowl tighter lines. It was a great addition and success to our game in South Florida. All the captains of the teams now would have to be more proactive with their field settings. No more 8 men on the boundary  before the first 6 overs were bowled !!!!

If a change was necessary in the league in the future then I believe any leg side delivery should be called a wide automatically. Bowlers intentionally target legside bowling to negate attacking shots on the offside. Not only will this improve the accuracy of our bowlers but it would also make batsmen play through the offside rather than woodchopping it over the legside side like they are cuttting cane. It just a thought guys, don't beat me up on the suggestion as I know a lot of batsmen can't play offside cricket at present and a lot of bowlers can't bowl 6 good balls outside the off stump either.Trust me,this would definitely improve both batting and bowling standards for the future.

The Annual Awards Presentation night is a great idea but in reality it is too boring for guests to sit there for 4 hours watching cricketer after cricketer going up and down all night collecting awards. Instead of collecting individual awards, why not call up teams awards all at once, give them all their awards in one shot and only save the batting, bowling, all rounder top players and Championship teams awards for the end. This way there is plenty of time for the guests to eat, drink, and dance for a few hours instead of the customary 30 minutes before it's time to get out?

What are your thoughts about anything else you think would improve our game?
Reduction of overs to 20 in the Summer season?
Neutral umpires from outside the SFSCL for all final games?
Forming a saturday league?
The league designating a  monthly Friday night game for 2 of the top sides at the stadium to help promote the game?
Presentation awards night only for bowlers, batsmen, all rounder of the seasons, and Championship teams?

Having been through another 12 months of cricket with varying degrees of success for the Hustler 2 squad, I would just like to say we all still managed to have fun in the park every sunday no matter what the result was. Our team in my eyes, is one of the best to be with not only for the fun and jokes, but also for the way we play on the field. We won't let any decision going against us cause us to argue like some other teams would do when the result is not going their way and that is why my team is always going to be a Champion team irrespective of where we finish in our division.

Championship teams are not only the ones who lift up the silverware at the end of the season.........My team will always be CHAMPIONS for the way we conduct ourselves off the field and also the way we play the game every week on it.

Hustlers CC Fall Champions

Hustler 1 Fall Champions
Congratulations to the Hustler cricket club and all of their supporters for winning the Fall 2014 Div 1 Championship yesterday.

They have now won back to back Division titles after gaining victory in their latest final with a win against their biggest rivals Hurricanes CC. Kudos to Subash and David as well as their troops for a well deserved victory once again.

Meanwhile in the other final, Lehigh CC beat President CC in a low scoring thriller of a game to become Div 2 Champions.Ex H2 player Sanko was MVP with his outstanding bowling and batting efforts for his team.

Sanko Churaman MVP LCC Div 2
Most of the H2 squad were at the finals yesterday all enjoying the sun, games, jokes, and most importantly a few drinks well into the evening as per normal. Everybody had a good time catching up with other players from other teams in the SFSCL cracking stories as the "FILE CABINET" was continuously topped up with a vast array of alcoholic beverages right up until hometime by the usual suspects from H2. Beers somehow graduated into Vodka as the file cabinet displayed great skill in transforming the shape of the bottles and contents......

Recruitment started early yesterday with players being asked what team they are playing for next year but everybody at H2 will be back next season maybe better, maybe stronger, definitely older, and raring to crack open another drink as they don the H2 colors once more in the SFSCL.

The SFSCL put on a great finals day and the turnout was superb. A special mention must go out to  all the governing board members for all their hard work and time spent throughout the year involving all league matters to make sure everything ran trouble free in the past 12 months.

Happy holidays everybody.
Be safe and enjoy the festivities.

Playoff Semi Final Schedule Fall 2014

Division 1 Schedule : 12-07-14

  • Hustlers CC vs United CC
  • OutLaws CC vs Hurricanes CC

    Division 2 Schedule : 12-07-14

    • President CC vs Berbice CC
    • Hustlers 2 CC vs Lehigh CC

Playoff games are nearly upon us as we come to the ending of the Fall season for 2014. Which teams are the most fancied ones to progress to the finals? Are there any clear favourites in the 4 scheduled games?

H2 have had a tough season throughout with trying to get 11 fit able bodied players all on the field at the same time since Game 1 so to reach the semi final stage is a big achievement alone for us. Just reaching this stage is already our final.

Somehow, we managed to get through the division as the number 4 seed and then surprisingly beat the number 1 seed Vikings CC team from Zone B in the quarter finals with a comprehensive win.

What are your thoughts guys? Who do you think will go all the way ?

Ground Security Already in Place

The H2 team management have already put into action a 24/7 round the clock guard to watch over their field for this sundays semi final game.

Feel free to give him a visit if you want to.

Outlaws v H2 Friendly Roundup

In a hastily arranged friendly game played yesterday between both sides, we were able to give Outlaws a good warm up for their semi final game to be played next week.

Availability was poor for the H2 team and last minute calls were made to ensure 11 players of varying standards were able to take the field and give the Outlaws team a game.

The game itself was not a close contest but still enabled the Outlaws batsmen to get some time in at the wicket as they totalled around 190 in 20 overs. H2 finished on 143 for 9 in 20 overs that was well short of the required target. Ravi, John, and Basil all scored good runs to go into next weeks semi final game in some nice form.

H2 would like to thank Ramesh, Mikey, Ryan, Ravi, Ram, Carl for helping us out to field a side as well as Anoop and his squad for the game. Many thanks for the additional bonus food provided also.  As always the H2 team made sure they had enough liquid refreshments to keep them going well into the darkness as they did their usual sunday best to keep up their not out score of finished beers count increasing for the season.

Next week sunday is semi final day when H2 face Lehigh CC at the bouncy castle batting and bowling wicket at The Yard.

Friendly v Outlaws CC News 11/30/14

This sunday 11/30/14  Hustlers 2 CC will play a friendly game against Outlaws CC from Div 1 in preparation for their semi final game the following week.

The game is scheduled to be played at Tamarac Sports Complex for a 12 30pm start time.

All players are to be reminded to show up with enough money to fill up the large red floating cooler Mohan has adopted for the past couple of sundays. Anybody thinking of bringing some cutters are more than welcome as well as the most important item...... bags of ICE.

Birthday celebrations and cake donations are also welcome to the fortunate ones adding another run to their score.

The picture below is what we expect to be wearing when batting against the fiery pace attack of the Outlaws bowling lineup. If you feel the need for extra padding, feel free to visit Home Depot and purchase some protection and allow your fellow team mates to borrow when you are done with it.

Enough protection ?
See you sunday guys......

A Message for LHCC.

Pitch carvery just for you on bended knee.....

Rumours around town are that LHCC are already asking the league to change the semi final venue to suit them rather than playing at our home ground and us to give up home field advantage.

The picture above shows a league finals day cricket pitch preparation on a soccer field at the beginning of the year.If this is good enough for a League final then our pitch is looking like Lords Cricket Ground right now compared to this finals ground and it's preparation.

If this is good enough for the league final then there is nothing really to complain about.

Quarter Final Result - Hustlers 2 beat Vikings CC

The Hustlers 2 team put in their best performance of the season so far against Vikings CC to get a comprehensive win against the top side in Zone B yesterday at the quarter final round stage. Nobody thought the H2 team was capable of a victory after struggling most parts of the season with lack of players and bad form but as it turned out, they won when it mattered.

Hustlers lost the toss and were glad that the Vikings skipper sent them into bat first. After a reasonable first 13 overs, the Hustler team had scored 73 for the loss of 1 wicket. Johnno was the batsmen out for 20.

The H2 batsmen knew they would have to post at least another 100 runs in the next 12 overs against the very dangerous Vikings CC batting lineup to stand a chance and as it turned out, they posted another 120 runs with Chris 67, Altaf 49 no, and Ravi 32 batting with skill and power when needed.

Vikings got off to the worst possible start in their run chase as they lost 5 quick wickets upfront. After 10 overs they were at 52 for 6 and apart from one good over they knew that one of their remaining batsman would have to score quickly and big if they were to win.

After the break Vikings lost 2 wickets in one over bowled by Mohan and with that their already slim chance of pulling off a win disappeared. The final wicket was taken in the 19th over by a Cliff and Johnno combo to see Vikings all out with 114 on the board.

The wickets were shared around by the H2 bowling attack of Terry 4 for 40, Mohan 3 for 22, Amar 2 for 16, and Cliff 1 for 14 who all bowled well throughout the game.

The next game scheduled is in 2 weeks time when H2 face Lehigh CC in the division semi final to be played at The Yard.

Match Highlights

Chris 67
Altaf 49 no
Ravi 32
Terry 4 for 40
Mohan 3 for 22
Amar 2 for 16
Cliff 1 for 14

Double Header News

The first game saw Hustlers 2 lose to a very good Unlimited team.
Unlimited scored 232 in their 25 overs and bowled us out in 18 overs to get a very good win.

Match highlights.
Basil 43
And that's about it.

The second game saw Hustlers 2 take on Lehigh Indians in what turned out to be a thriller of a game.
The Hustlers players were already sore from the early fixture and only had 9 players to play the game.

Luckily Hustlers won the toss and batted first with Debbie, playing her 2nd game of the day, opening the innings with Chris, while the rest of the team sat back and took a rest.

Hustlers got off to a fast start and went to the break at 84 for 0. Debbie on 20 not out and Chris 56 not out.
The second 12 overs saw Hustlers pile up the runs as they amassed 215  with Chris 75, Ravi 71 not out and Debbie 24 the main contributors.

Lehigh started well and were soon hitting boundaries and went to their own break at an impressive 131 for 1. Chief batsmen for Lehigh were Jamal 68 and Omarnauth Churaman 57.The next 12 overs saw Hustlers get important wickets when needed and managed to win by 14 runs in a close contest as the Lehigh impressive run chase fizzled out. Cliff was the standout bowler with 3 wickets for 10 runs who changed the game in H2 favour with his unorthodox leg spin round arm doosra carrum ball pelts.

Match Highlights
Chris 75
Ravi 71 no
Debbie 24'
Cliff 3 for 10

Next week the playoffs start with Hustlers 2 playing the number 1 seed Vikings at Tamarac Recreation Center.

Double Header Sunday

Hustlers 2 will play 2 games this coming sunday to finish off the regular season schedule.

First of all they will play Unlimited CC at 9am followed by Lehigh in the afternoon with both games to be played at the Yard.

Two games for anybody on the same day is tough but for Hustlers 2 and their aging squad, it will be even tougher. Not only will we have fatigue issues but we will have an even bigger problem with what time to load the coolers up. Will the ice last or melt before the second game is over? Will the drinks outlast the ice? These really are big questions for us.

Two sets of food means two rounds of eating for us as well. Two sessions of after match liquid refreshments means our average intake of liquids will double meaning our friendly neighbourhood store owner will be banking some extra dollars from us this sunday.

Whatever way we look at this coming sunday and how tough it will be for us, we will do our best to honor both games and try and drink moderately in our 12 hour timeframe.

Hustlers 2 v Guyana Heat Round 8 Match Report

Round 8 of the Div 2 fixtures saw Hustlers 2 head over to Wellman Fields to play against Guyana Heat with both teams looking for a win to keep them both in playoff contention in their respective divisions.

The day started off with rain showers all morning meaning the game start time would have to be delayed which was agreed by both captains.

12 15pm saw 10 Hustler players at the ground waiting for a break in the rain and only 1 player from Guyana Heat on his cellphone calling his players asking what time they will be arriving at the ground.
The Hustler skipper said we both would wait for the rain to stop and also would not claim the toss or the game, which Hustlers had every right to do so considering only 1 player from Guyana Heat was at the ground, due to the fact he was giving GHeat every opportunity to go ahead with the game and play within the spirit of the game. No overs were to be deducted as well.

1 30pm arrived and Guyana Heat only had 6 players at the ground but with more on the way, Hustlers skipper allowed the toss of the coin which he lost as Guyana Heat decided they would bat first even though they still did not have enough players at the ground to constitute a start to the game. More time was allowed by Hustlers for the remainder of the Guyana Heat players to show up and once 7 players were present, they went ahead with the start of the game with no rain falling.

The conditions were damp but very playable as the game started and after 21 overs, Guyana Heat were bowled out for 125.

Hustlers went to bat at 3 35pm and got off to a flying start as they quickly reached 29 for 0 after 2.5 overs were bowled. This is when it started to rain lightly and as soon as the rain started, the Guyana Heat opening bowlers said they were going off the field because they said the conditions were too dangerous for them. They didn't even ask the umpires for a ruling and what they thought or even confer with the batsmen. They just simply walked off.

The Guyana Heat players then left the field and instead of waiting for the rain to stop, which it did within 20 minutes and never rained again until we left the park around 6pm, they all apart from their captain, ate their food and then got into their cars and left the ground with no intention of going back out on the field to play. Over 2 hours of no rain falling from the time they left the field that could have been used to bowl the 10.1 overs or even complete the entire innings was not used by the Guyana Heat players.

The Guyana Heat team opening bowlers did not show any intention of completing the game after their bowling was dismissed with ease in the first couple of overs as they knew the only winner of this game was going be Hustlers.

We of course will be seeing how the league rules on this game as we will be claiming the win due to the fact that Guyana Heat had no intention of seeing out the game even when the rain had stopped. A few of the Guyana Heat players were also embarrassed by the way the game finished due to the fact their opening bowlers left the park within 20 minutes of walking off the field. The light would not have been a problem either as the floodlights all came on to light up the whole playing field for the game to continue or at least to bowl another 10.1 overs to get a result.
